Stop here for BBQ.I was beginning the return leg of a 5 day trip on I-95. I stopped here for dinner on 2 May 16. I ordered one of the plates and water. That order plus tax was approximately $16. If you order a drink, I would guess that would make the meal about $20 per person on average. 😐 I would prefer to spend less or to have more different meats on the plate, but I tend to want to try everything. My plate had beef brisket and three pork ribs. If I had to guess, I think I had about 4-5 ozs of brisket meat and 4-5 ozs of rib meat when removed from the bone. Again, while I tend to over eat, but with well over 1/2 lb. of protein, it is really enough for most folks. There were at least 5 choices of BBQ sauces at the table which is outstanding and just what I needed to directly compare all of the Carolina sauces that I think there are.West N. Carolina Sweet Tomato Ketchup basedEast N. Carolina Vinegar basedSouth Carolina Yellow Mustard basedand some hotter similar variations of the above sauces. There was also a choice of sides, I chose potato salad and mac-n-cheese. The potato salad was average and seemed like it was yellow mustard based, but since mustard based BBQ sauce is a S. Carolina thing, it was not unexpected. The mac-n-cheese was soft and mealy, like the cheese had separated into curds and oil. It was nasty and didn’t seem fresh.Beyond that, the atmosphere was fine, many of the tables seemed like wooden picnic tables with plastic stapled to the top. It is a small store and seats probably about 25-30 ppl. I could not smell a meat smoking operation, so I can’t say if the meats are smoked/prepared on site. All in all, this is a good place to pick up a sandwich or sit down and have a meal. Get a plate to try the different meats and don’t forget to try the sauces if you are not familiar with the variations in the Carolinas.
So there I was driving down 95 and I got in the mood for some BBQ (like I have to GET in a mood for it right). I see a sign up ahead saying BBQ and I was hooked….Pulled in and its busy so I waited and ordered a double brisket plate with coleslaw and potato salad…. the meat was tender and moist could have more flavor but it wasn’t horrible it at least had some flavor. The BBQ sauce was intriguing being that we are in GA they had a South Carolina staple mustard based BBQ sauce… it was good too… I put some on the meat and I was in heaven….The slaw and potato salad maybe they need new recipes it was tasteless and bland… sorry guys but it’s the truth.Anyway it was worth the stop and I would come back if I was in the area and couldn’t find a different place.
Nice people but average food
Outstanding pulled pork.
Smoked chicken and pulled pork sandwiches where great with the sweet sauce. Potato salad and green beans were good. Finished with nice cooling b-pudding.
Spare ribs were excellent as was the pulled pork. Located just off the exit between two gas stations. We will be back next time we pass through!
I had the pulled pork plate with spicy vinegar and potato salad with Mac n cheese. Everything was good but the Mac and cheese. I will go again
