This restaurant topped a list of Atlanta’s best fried chicken. Well, it’s good, but not great. The chicken here won’t disappoint, but I had better a day earlier at Gus’s. The sides were great. The string beans were delicious, the star of the visit. The mac and cheese was pretty good too. The tea was good, and unlike other soul food restaurants, doesn’t cause cavities on contact. There’s some flavor of tea involved. The chicken is made in a 2 day process, but Piccadilly used to have chicken that matched it. The same list gushed about a place called Watershed on Peachtree with a 3 day process to make their chicken, with results not comparing to KFC. Bottom line, just because the cooking sounds impressive doesn’t mean the flavor is worthwhile. This restaurant is almost a solid 4, nothing that makes it a must hit, but all the food is at least good if not great. There’s only 3 problems, 2 of which come down to popularity.1. The place is PACKED. Sunday at 2:30pm there was an hour wait for a table. Go alone, so you have a chance at the bar, with a far smaller wait time.2. The parking lot is not big enough for the crowd this place draws. You will likely have to park on the street. Bring quarters. This street is near a stadium, on game days you may not find parking.3. This is not a good looking neighborhood. There are people randomly hanging around everywhere. I don’t personally know the neighborhood, but you’ll feel better having your car in line of site. It took me 4 to 5 tries to find this place open. They aren’t open Saturday and are closed seemingly every holiday. When they’re closed, there’s always 2 to 3 people hanging around outside, bringing to mind Jay and Silent Bob.If you’re a local, try it once to say you have. If not, try something else.
