That had to be the WORST dinner experience I ever had. To start the waiter was rude with an attitude from the start. Since we were a group of 10 we gave him a chance since our total could have been close to $1000. As the meal went on it went from bad to horrible. All the food did not come out at the same time. The food thy did come out was cold. From the fish to there signature steak were fatty and way over seasoned with salt. Even the butter for the bread was inundated with salt. One of the side dishes did not come out I flagged the waiter down to asked for it and he was mad with an attitude again that I asked him for something else, he came out and he slammed it on the table. We sat there while realizing he wasn’t going to present dessert and one person asked for their bill. He started to bring the bills out and he had hand written a 20% gratuity onto the bill. We did expect 15 to 18% gratuity since we were a large group. When we confronted the manager about this he didn’t seem to willing or even wanting to acknowledge it. The waiter heard us talking to him and one of our friends confronted the waiter he pushed her out-of-the-way forcefully and ran out the door with the manager following behind. Finally a levelheaded waiter came by to speak to us and offered free dessert for the whole table and was willing to adjust everyone’s bill at the end of the night when they close the restaurant obviously will have to check with our credit card companies to make sure that that was done since I wouldn’t do it on the spot I would not recommend this place to anybody.
You’ll Be Impressed. We started with toasted bread with garlic/thyme/rosemary butter. It was a slightly green color, and tasted amazing. I’m still upset that we forgot to take a ramekin to-go. My wife had a glass of Napa Cellar Pinot Noir and I had Antigal Malbec. Both were good, but the malbec was great. The boutique oysters (they had Naked Cowboy from NY) were also great, but the entrees–she had an 8oz center cut filet and I chose the bluefin tuna over sauteed fennel bulbs–were fantastic. The steak was ridiculously tender and perfectly cooked (medium). The tuna was med-rare, bright pink on the inside with a rich texture. It was garnished with a chimichurri that was also delicious with the steak. The fennel was nice and tart, spicy and easily sliced with a fork. We ended with more wine, a chocolate cake slice and a creme brulee. All amazing. I highly suggest Maya to anyone that appreciates a great steak dinner or otherwise.
Chef Mimmo Alboumeh has hit it out of the park with Maya’s. If you’re looking for a special dining experience this is it. Brandon and the staff are attentive and helpful with menu suggestions also. We will be regulars at Maya’s from now on.
Great steak. Filet is amazing. Lobster tail appetizer and fois gras were excellent as well
Buckhead Level Steak. Prime ribeyes the equal in quality, flavor and price of Chops, Hal’s, etc. Tuna and escargot appetizers extremely tasty and a good deal. When the bill is viewed in its totality, you can live with the pricing on the steaks. Seafood is a reasonably priced option worth getting. Cooking is sophisticated. They know not to drown fresh salads in dressing and in all dishes they allow the natural flavors to come through. Not a misstep, service or otherwise, down to the unique garlic butter and hot bread.
