Exceptional. Located in the beautifully renovated Marshall House on Broughton Street, dining at 45 Bistro is a wonderful experience. We were delighted to find valet parking which always starts the evening on a festive note. The fact that it was restaurant week in Savannah was quite the bonus too as we had the opportunity to sample a lot of food for a fraction of what it would have been on the regular menu. The service was professional without being intrusive. Our server (Dan) knew the menu and even shared some of the cooking techniques used to prepare the dishes which I really enjoyed. This is a kitchen that understands food and brings out the best flavors in each dish. Ingredients are top shelf. I highly recommend both the tuna and beef carpaccio and the cream brulee, but I don’t think you will be disappointed in anything the kitchen beautifully prepares and plates, and professionally serves in this lovely setting. Go, you will not be disappointed. Yes, it is on the expensive end, but well worth it.
Once again, the Yule holiday has rolled around. For 2013, my partner and I flew into Savannah to celebrate with my family. This has given us the opportunity to review some new-to-us restaurants, as well as enjoy again (and review) a few from my younger days when I was growing on Wilmington, Whitemarsh, and Tybee Islands, as well as metro Savannah. For our last evening in Savannah before our flight back to San Antonio, my father surprised us with reservations for an extra-special, mega-deluxe, guys’ night out. So, my partner and I, my brother, and my sister’s boyfriend dined at 45 Bistro on Broughton. We all enjoyed our evening in this charming venue. Now, describing 45 Bistro’s atmosphere is not easy. Starting with the bar. It is some kind of art nouveau/art deco theme with a Savannah twist. You have to see this to believe it. When you see it, please help me out with descriptions. Anyway, the bar is amazing. Now, when you get to the dining room, this is even more Savannah-amazing. There is a wonderful view of nighttime Broughton Street out of the windows in the evening. At our table for five guys (jokes about Five Guys were circulated), we had an amazing amount of food over the course of the evening, not to mention drinks. 😉 I should mention that our service was excellent. Where to begin? My partner and I shared some escargot, while my brother and potential brother-in-law shared a Bento Box. My father chose the watercress salad. Everyone was happy with their starters. For entres, I did my best to keep track of who ordered what. My iPhone was busy taking notes and researching what was what. OK, my father ordered the Cervena Venison Chop. This was a grilled Cervena (New Zealand) venison chop with wild mushroom kugel (baked Ashkenazi Jewish mushroom pudding), slow roasted brussel sprouts, cipolini (tiny flat) onions and lardons (small strips of pork fat) finished with lingonberry demi glace. My father said this was excellent. I shall take his word for it.My sister’s boyfriend (being somewhat conservative) ordered the Brick Oven Roasted Chicken. This was a brick oven-roasted free range chicken breast with creamy wild mushroom risotto, fresh vegetables and Marsala jus. He said it was excellent. My brother ordered the Double Cut Bone-in Pork Chop. This was a white Marble Farms double-cut, bone-in pork chop, Coca-Cola (imagine that) and bourbon marinated, with collard greens, sweet corn pudding and cherry bourbon reduction. From how fast he ate it, it simply had to be good.My partner ordered the Black Angus Filet Mignon, which was seared au poivre (with pepper), with gorgonzola gratinee pomme frites (fancy pooh-pah French fries), fresh arugula and tarragon, and roasted garlic aioli. If it is beef, my partner eats it. He was very happy with this entre. For me, I chose the Black Grouper. This was quinoa-crusted (I love quinoa), pan-seared grouper, with goat cheese, creamed spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes. This was an excellent entre and one I can suggest if you like fish.Bistro 45 is somewhat pricey, so be prepared to open your wallet. For a special occasion, you may wish to make reservations here. You will have a wonderful evening.
Wedding Reception. We had our wedding reception here and it was seriously outstanding. Next to marrying my best friend in front of our closest friends and family, the highlight of the day was the steak au poivre. SUCH a happy bride!
Service was excellent and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend the grouper.
Oh the difference a year makes. I went to the bistro last year and had great food and service. This year, I brought my family so they could experience the same. We received terrible service and the food was not as good. I will not go back.08 Aug, 2010Bistro 45 was amazing. My fav restaurant during my visit to Savannah. Our server James was very attentive providing the type of service we haven’t experienced in years even while visiting restaurants of this caliber. Do not skip the beef carpaccio and I would recommend splitting it with a caesar salad with your date. I had the lamb which was good but their veal special which my other half had was awesome.
Great food. GreAt service. Grouper was spectacular!
One of the best restaurants in Savannah. Don’t skip dessert!
