Lunch on Columbus Day. Service was excellent. 3 of us started with a bucket of steamed oysters. They were tremendous. Waitress made sure we had what we needed and kept our she’ll bucket from getting full crackers were a bit stale. Wee decided to share entries after that. Crab cakes had large chunks of crab and good flavor.
Alright for food. Ok to good food, domestic beer is $5 do you can guess what mixed drinks are
Good oysters and crawfish.
Bernies. About a year and a half ago we stayed in Savannah for a month and enjoyed several lunches at Bernie’s while visiting Tybee. The food was good , service pleasant and at the time reasonable. My favorite was the crayfish and raw oysters. We came back in December of 2014. Crayfish scratched off the menus in black magic marker along with the prices of the raw oysters. They no longer serve crayfish and the oysters had gone up astronomically. we ordered 2 bloody Marys, 2 dozen oysters, 2 cups of soup (to which she brought us bowls and charged accordingly) and shared a chicken fajitta….$85.00 for lunch!!! we will leave this one off our to do list next time. Food was still good as well as the service.
Historic hole-in-the-wall for the adventurous. Bernie’s is literally a hole in the wall restaurant. Well, it is a dive, for sure. We were able to catch them not extremely busy on a Sunday evening and got seated. Service was quick, the food was good enough, and the beer was cold. This restaurant has a dank and foreboding basement atmosphere which could possibly frighten small children, but is quite charming in its own way.
Money wasted. Curse my appetite for oysters. I walked in and waited 15 minutes at the bar for a drink and to place a to -go order. I had a delicious bloody mary, but my oysters were small. ..I understand that happens. The bad part. .. they messed up my order after taking 40 minutes to make it. Managing a restaurant, I know I should have checked before I left, but since they took so long I needed to get back to the beach before my friends left me. If they actually had other customers in there I would have understood the wait too.
I wish I could tell you how good the food is. Unfortunately we sat for over 15 minutes without being acknowledged or even offered a menu. We left after we were pointed out by other patrons and were still ignored.
