Great local BBQ. I’m a regular here – the service is friendly and prompt, the food’s great, especially for the price. I’m not a BBQ conoisseur, by any means, but it does keep me coming back.
NC Style BBQ. If you like NC-style vinegar BBQ, then you must try this place. A family-owned business for over 40 years, they know how to make great BBQ. My only complaint is that they are a bit pricey when you have to add sides, including slaw for your sandwich. (Usually sandwiches come with at least one side.) The sides, however, are huge and shareable. The parking lot and interior are small, but don’t let those things deter you from giving them a try. I tried the chopped pork sandwich on a bun with hush puppies and coleslaw. The sandwich was perfectly flavored and I didn’t think it needed any sauce. But then, I’m not a big lover of sauce, anyway. The slaw is made with vinegar and not mayo, and I enjoyed that very much. The hush puppies are crispy on the outside, and moist and full of onions on the inside. Yummy! My hubby tried the pork plate with Texas toast, onion rings, and chili. He raved about their hot sauce on his pork, and his toast held up better with the moist BBQ than my bun. I’ll definitely try that next time. With a drink and two sides, you can expect to pay about $10 a person. Like I said, this place isn’t cheap, but I still think its the best BBQ I gave had in this area so far, and I definitely plan to return when visiting my family.
Awesome home cookin’. I had the chicken plate, which had a breast, wing, thigh and a leg. It was a pretty good amount of meat. And the fried okra, which was terrific and freshly fried. And the cole slaw, which didn’t have mayo but was really good. Also tried the Brunkswick stew, which I had never heard of. It’s sort of a smokey beef stew with corn… something akin to chili, but not quite.

Childhood memory. I grew up not too far from Old South and from the time I was 7 until I was in my 40’s, every time my parents wanted bbq, we had to go here. The Brunswick stew is probably the best in the ATL–others may say different but for me, nothing says home like a nice bowl of stew from Old South BBQ. Don’t expect a lot of flair, just good meat, white bread, and some of the sweetest tea you’ll ever encounter. I’ve been gone from the area for quite some time but despite the fact that I had just left a family funeral, on the way to the airport I had to stop to get a pork sandwich…yeah, I left a funeral early just to get a pork sandwich.
Forgot how good their que was. I think it’s been 10 years since I worked nearby and went here often and I really forgot how good it was. A tiny place run by the same family for 40+ years gives it a real nice cozy feel. For lunch today I had a brisket sandwich on garlic toast, Brunswick stew, and sweet tea, Sandwich was very good, nice amount of good looking lean sliced brisket that I topped with their in-house made regular sauce. Brunswick stew is full of porky goodness and one of the very thick versions you see around, neither very spicy nor very sweet… all in all very good. Finally, gotta mention that I had forgotten how sweet the tea can be, but it is… and if you like your tea extremely sweet you’ll probably love this… if not, may want to go with something less sweet, like a coke 😉
Great Food w/ Hugs!. Any place where you get a hug when you come in is okay with me, but add in some very good food and it’s a favorite and a regular stop!
