Used to be good?. I’ve eaten at King’s Grill maybe four times; I’ve had fried chicken (good), patty melt (meh), chicken fried steak (meh) and chicken and dumplings (OK). The first time I went, I walked in and stood there awkwardly; I didn’t know if I was supposed to just sit wherever, or wait to be directed to a table. Nobody behind the counter was paying attention to me, they were catching up on gossip with the half-dozen or so customers; I waited to be acknowledged and then it seemed like the server was annoyed with me for standing there – she waved her hand around and told me to sit anywhere, then took her sweet time bringing a menu. First impression was not a promising one. I ordered the fried chicken. It was delicious, so they’ve got a good thing there. The side dishes that came with it ranged on a scale from forgettable to regrettable. I guess I had some kind of tomato and cucumber salad, something else, mashed potatoes, and corn bread. The mashed potatoes are obviously flakes from a box. Mealy, overly salted, almost runny. The corn bread was dry. I ordered a piece of yellow cake for dessert, with a cup of coffee. Cake was OK – mainly just a one-note sweet flavor. Coffee was weak!My next visit I knew to just come in and sit down, so I did. Still waited for a menu while the staff were gossiping – it seems like mostly a crowd of regulars, everybody seems to know everybody else, and they spend a lot of time talking about a lot of people they all appear to know. This time I had a patty melt with a squash casserole side dish. The patty melt was just OK, but the squash was really good. No dessert or coffee this time, not worth the cost or bother. The chicken fried steak I had on a subsequent visit was tough and greasy, and the chicken and dumplings were mostly gravy and very light on chicken, dumplings, and vegetables. My two main problems with King’s Grill: 1) service – some people are coming in for lunch because they’re hungry, want food, and need to get back to work in an hour – not everybody is retired or has all day to sit around gossiping, and not everybody is interested in hearing staff gossip about people. 2) food quality – some things are good, but if you’re trying to cut corners by making mashed potatoes from a box or stretching the chicken and dumplings too far, those are bad signs. Maybe this place used to be great. If they tighten up, they could get around to being pretty good.

I walked in and it was not warm welcoming. I’m African American.. And the atmosphere was like before integration. It smelled weird, and the atmosphere was cluttered. My friend and I decided not to eat there.
Get the fried chicken it’s life changing
Cool place to eat. If you want something different and old school eat here. The menu is hand written everyday and the food is always good.
Western Omlett. Get the western omlett it is wonderful!! The ladies who work there are so sweet and welcoming. Sitting at the bar and looking at all the generations this place has been through is quite a treat as well.
