I was in Atlanta for a convention and as I was waiting on the shuttle bus back to my hotel I was attracted to this fantastic smell. I pretty much literally followed it to the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised at what I found. I had never been to a place like this before and me and the group I was with were starving so we decided to have a break and grab a bite to eat. It was a large convention so the place was packed. We hadn’t been to a place quite like that before so we were a bit unsure of actually what to do and were given no instructions. We ended up having to ask someone and finally began to make our rounds getting food. The food service was prompt and we received our plates in no time. The food itself was great, cooked to perfection. The service however was less than appealing. We only saw our server once after she seated us and at that point we asked politely for some drink refills. I am not normally one to complain but we waited at least an hour for her to even come back by and then she seemed to ignore us as she stood and made small talk with a nearby customer. I understand the place was busy but, being someone who is familiar with the food industry (currently getting a culinary degree and already quite familiar with the industry) that level of a lack of service, in my opinion was unacceptable. She brought our drinks by right as we were getting ready to leave. She brought the check and we left our payment on the table and all of us had agreed that no tip was in order. We decided not to complain but the lack of service we had received, we thought, did not meet our expectations so we stood and left. Two of my friends went the own way and me and another group were headed back into the convention center when our server came rushing out the door, screaming at us to stop and making a scene in front of everyone outside. She was yelling that we had forgotten to leave her tip and continued to follow us until we turned around and gave her some money just so she would leave us alone. Though she expressed she didn’t think the $7 we gave her, which was all the cash we had on us, was enough, it satisfied her enough to go back into the restaurant and leave us be. I considered calling in and complaining but I hadn’t learned her name and she was average so I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to identify her.I am a bit of a foodie so I love trying new places especially when I travel but through all my experiences, I have never been more embarrassed or humiliated than I felt that day and this certainly won’t merit me making a return trip. For food, this place is excellent but inconsistency in service was unacceptable.
I have always been a fan of grill style restaurant where you pick ingredients according to your taste and then chef will prepare dish using same ingridients. Advantage of these grill is you will blame yourself for not so good food :)This particular restaurant is in Galleria, walking distance from my office so have been there many a times. All the vegies etc are fresh and there are options to have it prepared soupy, or normal etc. They also gives you option to preapre it seperately which serves well for vegetarians particulary indians who dont want to have vegetarion food being prepared right besides non veg food.Only thing they can do better is to lower the music a bit and include some starters and have starters like buffet included.Food – 4/5Service – 4/5Ambience – 3.5/5Value for Money – 4/5Overall in Chatkara Meter – 4 stars out of 5.
The Gula Report. I had read some positive reviews on the Big Chow Grill and had an opportunity to give it a try today while in the area. Like many have noted, this restaurant has a unique concept, but it is basically derived from the Mongolian BBQ idea that gained a lot of popularity in the 1970s. There’s many similar grills like this, but on a much smaller scale. This is the only one that I know of that the entire experience revolves around the concept. I’m doing a full critique of the restaurant that includes five different categories that define the elements that create an eating experience. Let’s see how Big Chow fares:Atmosphere: I like the facility a lot. The high ceilings, the openness, color scheme, lighting, decor, etc. The constant sound of cooking utensils clanging against the grill. The opportunity to create one’s own stir-fry entree is unique enough that it’s worth the trip….at least once. I can’t say this is somewhere I would eat at on a regular basis, but it is an ideal place to take friends for an out-of-the-norm meal. I’d give it 4.25 FORKS!!!!.Cleanliness: Overall, the facility was clean when I tried it, though the ingredient stations can get quite messy. It’s not the fault of the staff, but they have to stay on top of it. Customers that walk in to find raw meat laying on the bar, could get the wrong impression of the establishment. I think they deserve 3.5 FORKS!!!.Service: This is the category that I had a difficult time grading. The customer’s involvement in preparing the meal really changes the relationship one typically shares with the staff. Our waiter was informative, could have been a little better on refilling drinks and overall courtesy. I’ll give them a solid THREE FORKS!!!Quality of Food: Again, if the food doesn’t taste good, one could attribute that to their own failure to combine items correctly. Therefore, flavor would be difficult to grade in this situations. Overall, the stir fry came out in a proper fashion, though I would have preferred my egg to be finely chopped and blended rather than not cut at all. My favorite taste was the Tilapia. I was a little disappointed that the final product did not come out in a more attractive manner. I mean, I think it would have a positive impact on the customer if their dish came out looking a little more classy. Also, the quality of ingredients can be critiqued at a level that is not usually possible, since the customer gets to see it before it is cooked. I felt like there was a wide selection of ingredients available. I was surprised to see that Calamari & Swordfish were present and Shrimp was not. Anyway, I’ll give them 3.5 FORKS!!!.Value of Food: This is sort of like a buffet. You get to return to the creation station as much as you like. Lunch was $8.99. That’s not bad, considering the experience that one gets. I think they should be awarded at least 3.75 FORKS!!!:Final Score: 3.6 FORKS!!!: VERY GOOD
Totally outstanding
A fun spot with delicious food!
Our family loves this place! What better way to get exactly what you want to eat? If your meal is a bit less than perfect, well it’s usually user error since you pick your ingredients. Still, if you pay attention, you get a stellar meal.
Formerly known as Chow Baby, I really like this place. It’s really your own fault if you don’t like the ending product since you did make it. The only downside is that the music is extremely loud especially with the echo of the customers. Great food but not the right place for an intimate setting.
