This place actually provides vego stock for the ramen soup upon request even though it was too spicy for me.Ordered number 4 vego tan tan and it came with standard meat soup initially. Then it was replaced with vego soup when we reminded the waiter. It also came with lots of carrots, mushrooms and ramen was good to eat. Apparently the standard soup wasn’t as good.
So being on the Huffington Post’s 17 must eat places in Honolulu, I was already expecting a lot. With the ramen choices back home, this had a lot to live up to, and boy was I disappointed. The ramen was ordinary, the char siu was thick (must be American style) and pan fried slightly and the soup base was not as tasty as I had hoped. Also had to add an extra $1 for the egg, which hasn’t been slow cooked the traditional way.
Amazing! Big portions, tasty and good price. Mahalo!!
Pretty good. A little bitterness from sesame and to little umami in soup. char siu could be seasoned a little better. Overall good for the price.
Good food and location. Attached to the world’s most amazing mall this small place offers a quick and convenient feed. Had seafood ramen and enjoyed it. Flavoursome broth though I was not sure whether MSG was involved
Good food, go early!. The quality of food served at Goma Tei has been consistently good whenever I’ve gone. I really enjoy their tan tan broth! The prices are comparable to other ramen restaurants and they offer a good range of foods. The wait time can be a hassle to deal with sometimes, so going during off hours is recommended (the difference in service and wait time for food changes a lot depending on how crowded it is).
Ramen and Curry in a nice setting away from mall riff raff. Ramen looked amazing. I had curry katsu rice. Also had a $3 happy hour local brew too. Lots of condiments including vinegar, chili pepper flakes AND Chili oil (chinese style which is RARE @ a Japanese resto). Quick service, comfortable& calm setting, generous portions. Curry and rice were very nice. Would have liked more oshinko (pickled veggies) and the pork of the Katsu was tough. Too tough. Curry taste and texture made up for katsu let down.
