After learning Hakone was an authentic Japanese all-you-can-eat restaurant, we knew we wanted to try it out. Hakone is located in the Hawaii Prince Hotel, on the 3rd floor. Upon entering, we noticed that 95% of the patrons were actually Japanese (they were speaking Japanese) and very much enjoying the food from what it appeared! Most of the waitresses were nice (though ours was a little brash, but I believe that was her personality – still helpful though!) and the food looked delicious. There was a variety of Japanese dishes, and to the typical onlooker, it may not look like much. However, the quality was on par with the foods that I grew up with in Okinawa, and really tasted authentic, all the way down to the miso soup swimming in bonito and freshly made tofu. Other food items were: Pork Tonkatsu (Fried Cutlet), rice, miso soup, sukiyaki, crab, salmon collar, sashimi, and a few Japanese desserts (like red bean and mochi). If you are a sushi fan, please, please do me a favor and try the sushi bar! Our sushi chef was incredibly nice and absolutely talented in his preparation of sushi. You can choose from several fish – Tuna (Maguro), Salmon (Sake), Squid (Ikura), Flying Fish Roe, Yellowtail, and more! You can only request up to 6 pieces, but you can return to the bar as frequently as you like; the 6 pieces rule promotes patrons to choose a variety of food, and also helps keep the freshness of the fish. Everything was delicious, though my personal favorite was DEFINITELY the Tuna (maguro)! With its beautiful color and melt in your mouth texture, I was immediately brought back to my days growing up in Japan and nearly broke down in tears (several times) at the flash back in memories. It was amazing.Overall, Hakone was very good and a must try if you are an authentic Japanese cuisine fan. The quality of food is incredible and well-worth their semi-small selection of dishes. The only reason why I did not give it a 5 star rating is that it is can be rather pricey. Other than that, give it a try and let me know how it was!

All food was very good!! Authentic! If you can eat a lot, that worth it!! ( but like me, not a big eater..)

Good Buffet Lunch. Was staying at the hotel so checked out their buffet lunch. It was good – good variety, great dessert table. Many Japanese dishes, including ones where you do a little work yourself, i.e. put together noodle soup, or cook up some meat. You don’t have your own waiter, but they rotate around, and so the service was great as one of the waters was always around.
