On our first full day in Hawaii we needed a substantial late lunch to refuel after an active morning touring Pearl Harbor and the Punchbowl Cemetery on the day before Memorial Day. Side Street Inn did the trick! With cold Hawaiian IPA on tap, signature dish Hawaiian Pork Chops and Fried Rice, and friendly, local servers, we were rejuvenated! Don’t let the side street location fool you. This one is highly rated by so many for a reason!
I’m a little in between on this one, people seem to love it and that’s fine but personally I found the food a little too heavy. But service was very good and they were extremely busy which tells me they’re doing something right
What a place!!! The service friendly, quick & helpful telling us if we needed more or less. Fitout, on the older side, comfy, clean, it’s where the locals hangout, no frills, sport on the big TVs. The food…. AMAZING! A cab driver told us about this place & he was spot on. The servings are huge, taste was very very good, quality of dishes – excellent. A must try if you want to get away from the queues, tourists & expensive prices!
We wanted to come here last time we were in Hawaii, but didn’t quite make it. This time round, staying in Ala Moana made this trip a lot easier and we’ll worth it!Make sure you come down the right side street, as the other side is a bit seedy otherwise. As a place serving fusion Hawaiian / Asian American at the original location, this is another highly recommended place to try out. Prices are reasonably priced as the portions are quite large, with the leftovers for breakfast. All the dishes were House specials and the only comments I have are the fried rice is slightly too sweet and the pork ribs were too dry.
One of my favorite in town. Amazing foods and huge portions. This is a great place for a large group to hang out and grab some beer. My fiance and I had the spicy chicken and fried rice. The service is great. Enjoyed our lunch.
Nice. Lots of men. Locals. While I was there i saw a lot of dudes watching basketball on the very loud television, only two families. Clean, staff is cordial, quick service, fried rice looked wonderful. I had the prime rib sliders with horseradish mayo. Very good but could have used more sauce. Each slider had a dime size drop of horseradish. Maybe its out if season? 😉
Side Street Inn for the trazvele. After a 24 hour day on planes I disembarked in front of what looked like an old hardware store carved into a restaurant. Industrial, metal shutters, air vents, old glass, neon flickering and people passing in and out. It was the Side Street Inn a place my host claimed was where the locals preferred to eat authentic cuisine. Our table was near the bar and we could see all manner of local folks sitting family style and enjoying the food. Our fellow diners were sailors, Hawaiians and a huge tattooed transvestite who looked fresh from the Sumo ring. He was sitting with his family hosted by one I can only describe a Tom Tom Tattoo come to life. It was road Warrior time but we had to break for dinner so everyone had food on their mind in this place. A classic family unit if I ever saw one. We had Poke and Sake brazed pork bellies. Rich in fat and oh so delicious. Flavors I had never contemplated were dished up in heaping portions. We washed it down with beer and conversation until we could hold no more. After the feast we wandered out onto the street to recover our vehicle and it felt like I had gotten lost in Hanoi with the crowds on the busy street milling about in an organized but undecipherable pattern. A great experience and food I’ll never forget.
