Another unexpected surprise in Shirokiya food court. This small shop offers mainly different varieties of takoyaki and okonomiyaki. For okonomiyaki they offer a Hiroshima style version loaded with yakisoba noodles for a more fulsome experience of chewy textures against the crunchy vegetables and warm egg. The flavour is loaded with sweet okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayo. It’s almost a bit too much to overpower the other ingredients, but I liked it.The takoyaki also looked great, unlike a lot of restaurants I’m used to, they actually have the cast iron apparatus in front of the counter putting on a show for everyone as they grill the octopus balls.I may be deprived of good okonomiyaki, because it’s still a rarity in some areas of North America, but having it at a simple mall stand more than fulfilled my craving.
