Very average burger, very below average service. We waited 45 minutes for our burgers while their staff really didn’t seem to be in an rush at all. To make matters worse, they were rude.
Really tasty, affordable burger. Despite the little shops dingy appearance Duane’s offers anyone venturing through a great local (40 year old burger shop) food experience.
My family and I eat here every time we visit. The burgers are excellent! Cut in half and individually wrapped. Imagine red Robbin meats Hawaii . We get one large fry and that’s enough for two young children and my wife and I. A bit grungy around the picnic tables but it kind of ads to the experience. Always a few chickens around beggin for some frys my kids like that. Hope you enjoy. We do 🙂
It was good in Anahola, Kauai. My Ono burger was good but not great. The fries were good but not great. The service was good. They have coke products. A few feet away at the local store you can find Pepsi. There are tables outside. My husband liked his blue cheese burger. If I had to choose a thumb it would be down.
The Teriyaki burger is the way to go, and milkshakes the size of your forearm? What’s not to like?
I grew up on Kaua’i and have gone to Duane’s since he first opened it in the 1970s. Sure, there’s better burger joints on the island, but Duane’s is a sentimental favorite. The patties come grilled with your choice of toppings; my favorite is the Local Girl–teriyaki, swiss, pineapple with lettuce, tomato and onion. While the pineapple is canned, there is a consistency of flavor–sometimes fresh pineapple is too tart, even when grilled, so the canned keeps the flavor consistent, if a little disappointing. Big disappointment is the canned mushrooms on that burger–in this day and age, if you’re gonna throw down $6 for a burger with mushrooms, they should be fresh! Duane’s doesn’t take advantage of the fresh, organic, local grown produce all around Kaua’i as much as it could, and seems to ride on its granddaddy reputation as THE burger joint to go to. What does set them apart is their fries, homemade onion rings, and Aloha Special–a tropical fruit smoothie blended with crushed ice–quite refreshing. The wait can be long (the locals phone in their order in advance), the meal expensive (2 burgers, 1 fries, 1 onion rings + 2 drinks will run you $25-$30), but it wouldn’t be a trip to Kaua’i without a stop at Duane’s.
From the reviews I guess I expected the burger to be better. I did like the burger, but I’d say lighthouse bistro had a better burger, plus it’s not as long as a wait as Ono burger. Also my mom was disappointed that she had can pineapple in her burger.
