Good Chinese good is hard to fund in Hawaii. I did not enjoy this place. Food was overly greasy and bland. Good proportions and cheap prices but no flavor!
Yen yen restaurant. Yen Yen represents the new style of Hong Kong inspired cuisine. It differs considerably from the older chop suey houses so prevalent in Honolulu As such, the cuisine differs a bit from the traditional Chinese cuisine so familiar to many. The restaurant is excellent in my opinion. It emphasizes the freshness of foods and the style allows the flavors of the the base ingredients to shine. Unlike the first review, tit should be remembered that Hong Kong cuisine is not noted for its heat. Yen Yen’s signature dishes are its Honey walnut shrimp which has a squeeze of lemon in addition to the more common simple mayonnaise, and their crispy chicken with scallions, which is a dish they apparently created by combining crispy roast chicken with the sauce used for the stuffed eggplant. I’ve requested and gotten special items not on the menu ( provided suitable advance notice is given and a deposit made, of course) for special occasions. The owner has been very accommodating, although not all requests can be handled. All in all, I would rate this a most excellent restaurant, and I prefer it to much more well known restaurants.
Terrific food and value in a humble storefront. Its modest appearance and location in a neighborhood shopping center are deceiving — Yen Yen is a great little restaurant, with delicious food, friendly service and prices you can afford. In addition to the customary Cantonese cuisine, they also have several spicier Northern Chinese selections, which my wife and I particularly enjoy. Try it … you’ll like it!
