Never been to this restaurant before – this new location is striking in design, but they should have put more of their money into the food and management and less into wood and stoneAfter arriving on time for our reservation on Oct. 27, we waited an hour to get our appetizer, an Antipasta salad priced at $15 – the two small cups of different dressings were the highlight of the dish, as there certainly was no salad to enjoy, just a handful of lettuce and small piles of veggies surrounding a small bowl of feta cheeseAfter another half hour, our 10 inch pizza arrived – the crust was limp and white, the pieces of ham and pineapple were so tiny you couldn’t taste them and the sauce had no flavor at all – by far the worst pizza we’ve had in a long, long time – this was priced at $16.75The bright spot of the evening was the young waitress, who was extremely embarrassed by the whole situation and apologized profusely the entire time – the sad thing is that a woman who was clearly management for the evening seemed oblivious to the obvious struggle the rest of the staff was having trying to keep up with their busy dinner service – she never once acknowledged our presence during the almost 2 hours we spent in the restaurantThe waitress wound up comping our bill and we left her a nice tip, after all it wasn’t her fault – despite her asking us to please give them another try at some time, we won’t be back – we can forgive bad service if the food is good, but even that wasn’t the case here

A gem way off the regular route.. First off Honokaa is one of the cutest town I have seen on the big island. The main street is lined with cute shops to just wonder and browse. The buildings seem to be all the original buildings. If you are on the Big Island, I would definitely recommend you visit here. Now on to the restaurant. In strolling around I happen on this cute restaurant with it’s huge family size Koa log table. The ambiance is great and if all you want is a coffee it’s a great place to go. If you want a great pizza, it’s a great place to go also. I ordered the Waipi’O and must say it is one of the best pizzas I have had. The crust was thin but not too thin and baked perfectly. The sauce was tasty and it seems like the pizza was baked, then the tomato slices added then baked a little more. The tomato was not DOA like most places when they bake the pizza with the tomato on top. You actually get to taste the warm tomatos with all it’s juice. Will be back for sure.
