One of the few places on the island to find gluten free options, but food is so-so and Marie is EXTREMELY loud. She’s nice to most customers, but sasses others.
Wow. What a pleasant surprise!. The food at Sweet Marie’s is fresh, often organic, and the roasted vegetables are high antioxident items like asparagus, brussel sprouts and beets. Most dishes are egg and dairy-free and EVERYTHING in the store is strictly gluten-free. This is wonderful for a gluten-intolerant family like ours.Lucky diners benefit from Marie’s multi-decade quest to deal with her own celiac disease. Over the years, she has fine-tuned numerous, delicious recipes. And her superb chef tastes fuel ongoing prototyping of further innovations. (Last week it was a unique mango-cinnamon experiment in muffins, which quickly sold out.)Gluten-free pizza is a new item. (In-store or take-and-bake.) And be aware that fresh dishes, including home-made soups, can run out by the end of lunch. For example, during busy lunch hour yesterday, our table got the very last serving of fresh-baked turkey meatloaf with veggies on a bed of whole-grain rice. The gluten-free pastries are made with top ingredients…fresh, organic fruits, dark dairy-free chocolate, etc. So feel free to take an extra dessert for later. You’ll be glad you did.It is easy to drive past this great destination in the hustle-bustle of central Lihue. Do yourself a big favor, though, by taking time to spot the ample glass storefront on the south side of the street. There’s plenty of free parking in the paved lot on the west — bordering on Sweet Marie’s lovely, airy dining room.Mahalo, Marie. Your personal journey of creatively coping with dietary intolerances has enriched us all!
All gluten free menu but does disappoint. Small place with limited menu and pricey overall however, Marie is accommodating in special order requests and her homemade granola is delicious. Service was disorganized but still worth the trip.
We had the morning glory muffin, brownie, and chocolate coconut macaroon which were all delicious. I don’t eat gluten free and I was very happy.
Okay food, way expensive. If you want strange gluten free food and want to sacrifice taste, go ahead and spend spend spend. I can’t justify spend that sort of money for mediocre food.
Intersecting looking food. Limited selection. Weird helper/ owner.
Great baked goods, good selection, owner very helpful recommending other restaurants on Kauai.
