It all depends on what you are looking for. Chubby’s is not really easy to find and you really have to want local good food without the fancy. First of all it is in a bowling alley and the restaurant’s name is NOT outside. You have to know it is there. Seeing as it is in a bowling forget about having a romantic conversation. Between the ringing of bells in the arcade and the crashing of pins and balls it is best to keep your expectations low. However, it is a great place for families and hungry people. We split a mixed plate of Teriyaki chicken and Kona pork and it was pretty huge. It came with two scoops of rice, a big scoop of Tuna Mac and a spare place so we could split. Pretty good for about $12. Their breakfast menu looked very good too, and I am looking forward to trying it. Our server mentioned that the place is part of Big Island Grill which I think is pretty good too. This place is definitely worth finding if you want to get away from the tourist food places and eat more like a local.

The best bowling alley food ever!. Chubby’s is an offspring of Big Island Grill, and offers an even lower price alternative to its older sibling. Many standard items (burgers, pizza, etc.) start frozen, not fresh, but specials are cooked fresh: Chubby’s kalbi (Korean short ribs) are the best in town, they serve a delicious ox tail stew, and a kalua Pig & cabbage that brings us back again and again.
