Amazing breakfast! Very attentive staff whom greeted us with authentic smiles!! You won’t be disappointed w the Crab, cheese and tomato omelette topped w avocado! Yum! Look forward to having dinner there soon.
Great spot on the water as the sun sets…it’s a super busy place and I had the crispy seafood combo and was pretty good. Good quick service and some good cocktails…
It was ok at best. We had high hopes with the good reviews. The best part was the server being very accommodating and nice. Coconut shrimp was good. My mahi mahi was dry and kinda bland with dry sweet potatoes. The risotto would be so much better with scallops or blackened fish not boiled fish. Good views.
Of the four places we tried on Alii Dr. over looking the harbor, this was the best! A bit fancier than neighboring places, Fish Hopper served up a very nice meal. The Monchong with risotto was excellent. the fish was fresh and nicely prepared, the risotto also hit all the marks. The fish trio was sesame ahi, cajun hebi and broiled opah. All were excellent except the opah too closely resembled ono? A decent serving of each, with very attentive service in a nice setting more reminiscent of a true restaurant vs. a bar with food service as others seem to be. If you’re looking for a decent mean looking over the water in Kailua Kona, this is me recommendation.
Hawaiis Big Island has no shortage of locally owned restaurants serving assorted cuisine. There seem to be more seafood restaurants than any other type and we paid a visit to one of them on a recent vacation. The restaurant is called Fish Hopper, a dining establishment that specializes in seafood and steaks.I visited Fish Hopper with the family in tow for our evening dinner and we generally liked what this establishment had to offer. The menu is focused on seafood, but there are other foods such as steaks, salads, and a small number of other choices. Im not a seafood lover, so I went with another option, Teriyaki Chicken. I found it very good and nicely presented, even though there was less food on my plate than I preferred. My kids ordered from the kids menu and we added an appetizer which was shared between the wife and kids. The food is very good quality and they also serve some interesting specialty drinks. Fish Hopper has a nice atmosphere and this is certainly one of its strongest points. The front of the restaurant faces the ocean so you get the great views and sounds of the waves while you dine. Not surprisingly, its a popular restaurant during the evening hours, right around sunset. Its located right on the main road in Kona making it easy to find and its within walking distance of many resorts.Fish Hopper is a good restaurant overall and the food and drinks are easily better than average. Service is good also, but if I had to voice a complaint about something, it would be the prices. My small chicken meal was priced over $20 and most other meals are equally pricey, if not even more expensive. The same is true with the drinks. They are tasty, but unless youre willing to drop $10 to $20 on a mixed drink, you should avoid ordering from this part of the menu and stick with soft drinks instead. I suppose its the price you have to pay for an ocean front restaurant on Hawaiis Big Island. My advice?- try to ignore the price tags and focus instead on the food and views. After all, youre vacationing in Hawaii, so why not splurge a little? Keep your mind off of the final tab and you should have no problem enjoying your visit to Fish Hopper Seafood and Steaks, one of Konas better restaurants. greatbeernow.com
Happy hour is great. The current bartender, Jorgen, is very good. Went back several times the week we were here.
