You’re paying for the view, which is lovely. We found the waitstaff to be the opposite. They were curt, barely made eye contact, and the hostess seemed put out in some way that people wanted to eat at the restaurant. Huggo’s on the rocks, right next store, has food that is less interesting but a very friendly wait staff.We wouldn’t recommend Huggo’s, given our poor experience.

Save Your Money. We were in Kona last year, dined here, and loved it. This time we had a much different experience. We ordered the seafood chowder ($11.95/bowl) and it was excellent. Good portions and delicious. Also ordered the Caesar salad ($11) and it OK. Again nice portions and tasty. Unfortunately, that is where it ends. I ordered the chefs special; lemon and garlic seafood pasta ($38). The lemon was over powering, almost as if the chef dumped too much lemon in the dish. The garlic was also over powering and did not work with the lemon. I ate only a few bites. My wife ordered the baby back ribs ($28?). The fries were hot but the ribs were just OK, nothing special. My wife ordered the cheesecake for dessert and again it was OK, nothing you cannot find elsewhere for less money. With tip, our meal was $140. Overpriced for the entres we received. Based on this experience we will probably not come back which is sad because last year this was one of our favorite restaurants in all of Hawaii.
Don’t Waste your time.. I have never been to such a lame restaurant in my life, there is Zero ambiance since you cannot even read the Menu let alone to see what you are eating. The Staff really don’t care about the Diner’s and the Owner isn’t really interested to see if all is going well and really does need to learn about how to appreciate food since the standard of the dishes is pathetic as well the smell was on the nose so not favorable go elsewhere. There are better places that shall hit the spot.
4 of us arrived about 930, after a slack key concert at the Marriott. We sat right on the water at the end of the restaurant farthest away from the loud music next door at Huggos on the Rocks. We enjoyed the live piano music. Our meals were excellent and the server was pleasant, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. The Maui Maui on pumpkin risotto with green beans and balsamic capers was superb. The macadamia nut and hot caramel, banana crunch is delicious but a large portion; better to share. We had a berenia Rioja wine from Spain that was quite nice. Overall wonderful food and atmosphere, good service. Yes you pay for it, but you get full value. Highly recommended.
Horrible service. Waiters were flustered and arguing amongst themselves instead of attending to Walk-in’s. We left with no intention of returning. Try lu lu’s or humpby’s down the street.
