Waiter with the bad calf tattoos……. Unfortunately I have to post a negative review based solely on the service ( I didn’t order food, just a beer). You see I had been visiting the Big Island on a holiday ( just a mere 10 days)when I spotted Humpy’s ale house. I thought I’d step in, order a beer and buy a snazzy t- shirt. Hawaii kona brewery has brewed several batches of beer special only to Hawaii. One of those beer I became a big fan of (makani wheat ale). When I ordered the beer the waiter ( the small dude with the two really bad calf tattoos) proceeded to tell me I ordered it incorrectly and that is was the wailea beer. When I got the beer I recognized immediately that the red coloured amber ale was not the wheat beer. I asked the waiter for the wheat beer at which time he told me they didn’t make that type of beer. I explained to the waiter that I had it earlier at another place at what time he proceeded ignorantly to tell me he lived on the island for 13 years and that they never made that beer. I showed him the poster in the door of their establishment stating they did make the beer. In any event I drank the ale (still good beer) and left. Later that evening we went to the awesome Jackie Rey’s restaurant and I ordered the wheat beer on tap. Long story short is that the ignorant 13 year resident waiter should learn their own beer menu before condescendingly telling their visiting customers ( who pay their wage) that they don’t know what they are talking about. Sadly I didn’t buy the t-shirt as the dude with the really bad (seriously betty boop I think was one of them) calf tattoos spoiled the occasion.
The place to go. Want affordable ocean side food with good service. Humpy’s is the place to go. Tommy the bar tender is funny and really good at his job. The clams in the wine sauce for about $14. Sooo good!

Best spot in Kona. This is the best spot in Kona, hands down. Gorgeous view, great servers & bartenders, a delicious buffet & menu as well as the best beer selection on the island.
Hot Pretzels and cold beer. The hot pretzels with different mustards are a great pupu while sipping a beer and looking out at the gorgeous view from the bar or rail side table. Friendly comfy place with a mix of locals and tourists. Nice happy hour prices too!
