  Cool coffee joint. Friendly and helpful staff. I ordered a signature Kona coffee. It went down a treat. Also, what an awesome view of the waters this coffee house has.

  Yesterday on 6/28 we found Island Lava Java online and due to the great reviews we read, we were looking forward to our visit as my partners 8 year old daughter had wanted Hawaiian pancakes for her last breakfast on the Big Island.We drove quite away out of our way to try to make it to Island Lava Java before 11:30am so we could still order breakfast.In fact made it to their location before 11:30am.While we were walking in from the back gate the hostess was under the stairs at the station and completely ignored us.Not an hi, aloha, or hello even though we were about 4 feet in front of her, she did not even glance at us, nothing.After this inhospitable welcome, we followed her out to the front hostess station where she finally acknowledged us and looked at the three of us and asked how many.So we told her three even though she just saw us walk in, or maybe she really was ignoring us as much as she made us feel like she was?She grabbed menus for us and then turned and told us that they were now serving lunch and not breakfast.We were disappointed by this and my partner said we’d go somewhere else and they started walking out.I told her that it was 11:28am and the website menu said breakfast served until 11:30am.She told me that breakfast was not served after 11:15am and then told me it was 11:29am.I held up my phone to her and showed her that it was at this point in fact 11:28am.I told her the website said breakfast was served until 11:30am and that we drove along way due to this fact, and that if breakfast was over at 11:15am the website should be changed to reflect this so other with 8 year olds will not be disappointed that she is not getting Hawaiian pancakes for her last day in Hawaii.Just now, I checked to confirm that we were not in error and your menu that pulls up on your website says BIG ISLAND BREAKFAST Breakfast is served until 11:30am.We were and are very unhappy with this experience and your hostess’s attitude and lack of professionalism, I hope all your guests are not treated as we were.I am a flight attendant and my partner military.My passengers often ask me in different cities where to eat etc and I am always happy to share recommendations of restaurants etc that I have had great experiences with and enjoyed the food.I will never recommend Island Lava Java due to our experience with your host yesterday. A dining experience that we were really looking forward to turned out to be a completely awful experience due to your hostess and her attitude and completely untruthful exchange with us.

  When we arrived at Java Lava, we were told there will be 10 minutes wait. That was a bit odd as there were many tables available in their new shop which is a lot bigger. We used the waiting time to peruse the menu and decided to go for Waipio stack and Waffle Breakfast with Portuguese sausage. Being coffee lovers, Lowe ordered iced Kona coffee and iced Mocha. I find the iced mocha too sweet but my partner liked it. The Waipio stack was a healthy balance with 2 over easy eggs, apple smoked bacons served with house made bread and fresh avocado, rockets and a bowl of fresh fruit. My partner really enjoyed his waffle too. Two thumbs up!
