The food is fresh, well-seasoned, and delicious. the kava is served in coconut half shells by owner and bartender, Zachary. if you’re seeking a mind-altering experience, you’ll need to drink something a lot harder than this. the kava elixir has a subtly relaxing effect, and tends to numb the mouth in an interesting way. it also curbs the appetite. I suggest getting the kava-juice mixture, as the straight kava prettying tastes like muddy water. even if you don’t try the kava, the food is the best and most original I’ve seen so far on the big island. it’s a healthy, fresh take on traditional Hawaiian dishes. portions are large and everything I’ve had or seen is super tasty.

This place is awesome.. I was getting breakfast at a little restaurant nearby and passed this place on my way there. I had heard a lot about Kava online but never tried it myself, but let me tell you, it was very worth it. The atmosphere is awesome, and the Kava is WOW. If you’re passing through the area, and want a place just to kick back and relax, come here.

Kava Kava is a wonderful relaxing drink.. first time you try it it won’t hit you like that. Your body has to acquire it so to speak. We went there about 8x and slept like babies those nights.. and had some awesome dreams as well. It’s an anti-anxiety herb as well as an anti-toxin. Wonderful stuff.. It’s been around a LONG time. Highly recommend it. The taste is earthy/ like dirt.. but the feeling is calming.. we all need that.

If you’re in Kona, you gotta try this place. Love it or hate it, what a unique experience! I love it.

Kava as a drink is an acquired taste. Frankly, I don’t see the point of it. That being said, the food is simple and good. A pupu platter will easily feed two people and provide a selection of flavors. The atmosphere is very laid back and the cafe is nicely tucked away from the traffic on Ali’i drive. Try it if you’re in Kailua, it’s worth it. Not gourmet but satisfyingly yummy.
