Phuket Monkey playful and new. Laddawan’s Phuket monkeyIt was time for a late lunch and we were back in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for a winter vacation. I really enjoy Hawaiian Mixed Plates so we took off to Kona Mix Plate. The challenge was that the Mixed Plate place closed and moved on years ago. In its place we found Laddawan’s Phuket Monkey. The little restaurant has only been open for five months but I can see if they keep going as they are they will be around much longer.Laddawan, the feisty owner, has been training her people on creating familiar and wonderful dishes from the Southern Thai and Laos regions. Focusing more on savory flavours with a little nod to popular Thai servings. The restaurant is minimalist. This is not a place for the Thai experience but instead it is a spot that appeals to Big Island locals. I always like the idea of eating where the locals go. But I am happy that Laddawan concentrated on the food more than the atmosphere. And the food is excellent.The prices are not bad and the amount of food served was just right. We were just having a light lunch and left the restaurant feeling well served.I am glad we will be around a while so we can go back.
