Cafe 100 is a 100% TravelValue! This fast food joint on the outskirts of downtown Hilo pumps out quality food at very reasonable prices to hundreds of customers a day. Their specialty is Loco Moco, scoops of white rice topped with a hamburger patty, brown gravy, and a fried egg, with other variations including spam, chili, and other savory options. The service was very friendly and efficient. We placed our order at the window, grabbed a table in their covered patio, and waited 10-15 minutes to get our food (you can to eat there or take it home). My wife ordered the Double Loco Moco Combo ($8.95), coming with two scoops of rice, two burger patties, brown gravy, and two eggs over-medium. It also came with a medium fountain drink and a cookie, but when our order arrived there was no cookie. I asked the lady at the window and she told me that she forgot to tell me they were out of cookies, but she had deducted $0.50 from the price. Fair enough.I ordered the Bacon Cheesy Girl ($5.55), a double cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce and tomato, and a side o’ fries ($2.85). The bun was fresh, the meat well cooked, and the bacon just right – a little chewy and a little crispy. It was a good burger, not a great one, and the fries were hot and crispy, not burnt, just the way they should be.If you are hungry and on a budget, this is the place to go – great service, tasty food, large portions, and fair prices – BIG ISLAND, BIG VALUE … HOOAH!!CombatCritic Gives Cafe 100 90 Bombs Out Of 100 … More Bombs Are Better! combatcritic.com
What a bargain this was! We got a regular loco moco for $3.30 (it was today’s special) with brown rice instead of white rice and it was a very pleasant meal. Loved the texture of the rice which made the dish very filling and the patty + gravy was perfectly seasoned & flavoured – we didn’t even need to use the sou sauce or ketchup. Cute place for a pit stop if you’re looking for a cheap bite!
So many plate lunch choices here and so damned cheap. Don’t let the prices fool you, these a substantial filling meals. They claim to be home to the loco moco. They certainly make a good one and also avail a ton of variations including daily specials. If you order a large meal you might be eating off of it for days.
Was told to try the Loco Moco here by a local, was not disappointed. cafe 100 is a fast food establishment, service polite and quick, lots on the menu and good prices. It was about $16 for a cheezy girl (double cheeseburger), fries, a loco moco and two drinks. Would recommend this for lunch for anyone passing through Hilo. Great burger, great loco moco.
Go for the local color. This is a one of a kind fast food plate lunch place. It is on a lagoon in Hilo. You can actually take your food and wander across the grass and watch honking geese land in the lagoon while you eat. OK, fast food? There is no fast food at any Hawaiian plate lunch place. You will wait some. Cafe 100 is said to have invented the loco moco. I’ve never had one – gravy is not on my preferred food list. But if you want something kinda quick and don’t feel in the mood for a restaurant sit down kinda meal, this is a decent choice.
Worst loco moco during my 2 week visit to Hawaii. Much of our 4 food orders were so BAD it was thrown away. Don’t go here!!!
Da super loco moco is some of the best. Adding spam & Portuguese sausage is da bomb!
