Drinks-Yes/Food-No. Cronies is a place to hang out with friends with some drinks and maybe appetizers. Maybe meet up to watch a game. They have a good selection of beer on tap and in bottles and an adequate bar. That’s as far as I would go in the future.The wait staff is friendly and professional, but I really feel sorry for them with such a lousy kitchen. Food items at cronies are one step higher than Zippies, which isn’t saying much. The food takes too long to show up at your table and is barely warm when you do get it. All ingredients have been cooked in advance, understandably, but that doesn’t excuse the cremated bacon in a simple BLT sandwich and the dry kalua pork in their slider that’s been sitting around the kitchen too long. Haven’t you heard of re-hydration? I’ve had better food from a mobile lunch truck. Maybe hire the truck guy for your kitchen, at least he knows how to cook. My recommendation is, don’t expect too much from their food menu. Think of it as a sports bar and pupu stop. Sorry for the not so glamorous review, but frankly I’d rather be in the old drug store fountain that used to be there. At least they had good sandwiches, simple burgers and great milk shakes. One reviewer had it right, it looks like a college bar without the college crowd.
Great burgers, friendly atmosphere. Definitely the best burger in Hilo, but I have lots of other menu favorites, too! Staff is efficient and friendly, all the time. Great place to eat.
Great food and fun. Staff offers great suggestions and believe me the drink suggestions were right on!
Pretty Basic. BLT is okay, hamburgers are okay, pretty much okay for everything. If a really important game is on TV, I’ll stop by for some grub, but mostly I’m eating lunch in Hilo somewhere else.
Nice people. Awful food. Cold fries. Cold onion rings. Cold bacon on my burger. And some gooey cheese substitute instead of cheddar. Left most of it uneaten and I’m looking for something edible.
