Semi-Biased review. Let me start this off by saying if you’re in Hilo, go to Miyos. Before I started working here, it was one of my personal top five favorite restaurants in Hawaii. In my opinion, the food I’d on a merrimens/four seasons level. But at a very affordable price. Advice: sesame chicken is to die for, salads are artistic,
Miyos is a very good restaurant nice place good food .
Japanese food and Hilo, it’s Miyo’s!!!
Very Japanese. We ate here on New Year’s Eve and it was awesome. It was not crowded and they have a guitarist who is very good and plays very softly. Many dinner spots here have entertainment but it is usually too loud. This is very subtle and no singing. We have eaten here before and always enjoy it. Some reviewers complain about the ambiance but please remember this is Hilo. Everything is a bit funky. We always get a combination dinner with Miso soup, Chicken Katsu, Tempura veggies and shrimp, Sashimi, and your choice of two other dishes. I always get the oysters (breaded and fried and very yummy). The sesame chicken is moist and delicious. I love the decor…the river and ponds out the windows are lovely. The service is great and you can bring your own wine – no corkage fee. But bring your own wine glasses too – they don’t have any.
Great family Japanese. Once we found Miyo’s we ate here every night. Good unpretentious Japanese. Reminds me of Syun Izakaya in Hillsboro OR, but it’s definitely got an islandblaid back feel. Get the bento box fish special.
The wait was worth it, and the food was great. A hidden gem!
