Not big on food trucks but……. We were told by several family members that Macky’s Shrimp Truck was a must have on Oahu. They were right! Big, fat, succulent, juicy sweet shrimp were had this day. I was hankering for the coconut shrimp but they were out so I went for the spicy shrimp. They were fantastic, not spicy at all, I was expecting some heat but had great flavor. We also had the buttered garlic shrimp, super rich and mildly garlicky. We hit the 7/11 across the parking lt for Slurpees before we ordered. Nothing like shrimp and Slurpees to prep you for a sunset where tonight we were treated to a green flash sunset. Perfection of a day, thank you Macky’s and Mother Nature.
Just What I Hoped For. Brought my entire family here for lunch on a recent trip. Had heard they had excellent local shrimp. We had a great meal at a great price. Shrimp excellent, but the freshness of the salad a nice surprise.
We ate at multiple shrimp trucks while staying on the north shore. Mackys was by far the best. The shrimp were very large. The service was good and fast. The garlic shrimp is the best.
The best Shrimp on Oahu! I was just there for a week. We had Macky’s 4 times. So ono!!
If you check my review of Giovanni’s, you’ll see me raving (a little) about this place, so much so that I would drive the extra miles from there to Hale’iwa just to get to Macky’s. I’d stopped here on a whim just because I didn’t feel like fighting the traffic anymore. It wasn’t that crowded, either, so I knew I’d get pretty fast service. I ordered the lemon pepper shrimp and was surprised five minutes later when my number was called and I was handed a plate full of food. I don’t know if I missed something on the menu or not, but my plate came down with two giant scoops of rice–which I expected–but a salad and a large slice of fresh pineapple. The salad was a mix of greens, carrot slivers and radicchio, and was lightly garnished with sesame dressing. The rice was also lightly garnished with some of the lemon pepper sauce in which my shrimp were perfectly cooked and coated. There was not an excess of sauce under my shrimp as there had been at Giovanni’s; in fact, by the time I was done, there was little evidence on my plate that I’d had any sauce at all. The shrimp were tender, delicate and sweet–in a word, perfect. After a while, the sesame dressing and lemon sauce melded together and flavoured the food in the middle of my plate. Let me tell you, that was a perfect combination. The sesame dressing on the rice and the shrimp was tasty with the lightly acidic lemon. The food at Macky’s was so good that I remember closing my eyes as I bit into a shrimp, letting the cooling North Shore breeze brush my cheeks as I savoured the food. Forget the other shrimp trucks.
YUMMY. Every plate is $12, and leaves no room for Matsumoto’s shave ice. The butter garlic, lemon, and coconut shrimp plates are excellent but if you want a kick, go for the spicy, good flavor and you’ll sweat off any extra calories you missed from a day on northshore.PS, its open later than the others
WOW!. This place is amazing!! I ordered the lemon garlic shirmp, and it had flavor. Good size portions it also came with white rice, and a salad.. If you are in north shore I totally reccomend this spot!!!!!
