An aggressively fun restaurant, part of a mainland chain, in our section, three out of five of the tables (including our own) were birthday celebrations, all feted with Buca Di Beppos very own birthday chant. For a table of 21 for a birthday party for mostly 16 year olds, this was perfect: huge share plates of Italian-American food. I thought the margarita pizza was a stand-out, thin crust, nice flavours. A meatball as big as your head amused me. The fried calamari were very tasty. The young ones appreciated the monster brownie sundae. For some reason, they just wouldn’t take away our dirty or used plates, and the ‘glass and a half’ (9 ounces) of the House Chianti, at $18, was one of the most expensive glasses of wine I’ve had, if not THE most expensive in a casual restaurant (these are the kind of prices charged when you’re trapped in airports, desperate for a drink). This is NOT the place for a casual meal of 2, 3 or probably even 4 people. It’s for big groups of big eaters out for a fun and memorable night (but don’t drink too much). Have fun! andyquan.com
