First of all, I love this complex in Kakaako, and the relatively new restaurant FISH Honolulu is in a perfect place in it, open to the elements, which a fancy roof that looks like it opens and closes and nice lighting. They were having an off night though when we dined there with dear friends, who had said that only a few days before theyd had a great meal. The service was super-friendly and welcoming, but the execution didnt match up. A side of bread arrived burnt. It was replaced, but the other side of bread that was ordered finally came when wed all finished our mains, so was sent back. The squid appetizer was tasty. Husband said his risotto was OK but simply didnt taste like any risotto hed ever had before in terms of texture. It was kind of soupy looking. My cioppino had a nice piece of fresh fish in it, and a scampi or lobster but the broth lacked flavour (and particularly in comparison to a cioppino at Fte restaurant a week later). The desserts were lack-lustre, and while I like the idea of a thin rectangle of cheesecake (and the plating was beautiful), it was just regular cheesecake with an unfortunate chewy clear gel on top. The waiter did comp the desserts, which was a nice touch, recognizing that there had been problems but I hope that both the food and service are usually better than this was. It was almost two stars, but with the complimentary desserts and friendly service, Ill give them the benefit of the doubt and give three stars. andyquan.com
