Hit or Miss. I’ve dined here when completely dead and when really packed – and I agree, navigating the parking and dealing with the accessibility issues off of Nimitz can be frustrating for first-timers. The food here is not fancy, but offers relatively good value with its generous portions. Service has been hit or miss, with positive outweighing the not so flattering times. On my last visit, the hostess was very sweet and courteous and our server was on-point and friendly, which made up for the slow, inattentive, and lackluster service experienced prior. They serve island favorites alongside some real unique specialties you don’t find at your average casual family restaurant (aku bones!). The decor is attractive and tidy. However, I, too, notice that the food is generally bland; with the exception of the tempura which is unusually sweet, as well as unusually greasy. I recently discovered that one thing I really enjoyed here was removed from the menu. Bummer. I love my local comfort foods and encourage supporting local businesses, so hopefully things improve here.
Service not that great and neither is the food. Went during lunch hour and our waitress only came to are table three times the entire service and never came to pick up the check. She definitely didn’t deserve a tip. The food was mediocre and pricey. Tempura was over breaded and burgers were over cooked and dry. Not returning to this place nor would I recommend this to my greatest enemies!!!

Too much breading!. I ordered the Tanaka saimin and shrimp tempura. It all looked great until I bit into the tempura and got a mouthful of breading. Where was the shrimp? I hoped the saimin would at least balance out the disappointment…but it was a letdown too. The broth was tasteless. The noodles were unremarkable.01 Aug, 2011Too much breading. I ordered the shrimp tempura with the tanaka saimin and got a mouthful of breading. Where was the shrimp? And the broth had no flavor. I was initially excited to try this place however was rather disappointed.
Go to zippys instead. Service and deserts are okay and are the only redeeming qualities. go to zippys, much better restaurant overall at least they know good saimin. the broth is shrimp based which i dont mind but there is no other flavor to speak of besides the shrimp and a hint of seaweed. worst yet there is no warning for anyone with a food allergy. in addition to that the noodles they use rent that great either.
Good not great. I thought the food was good. It reminded me of a diner but it didn’t impress me enough to return. I’m looking for a little more in my dining experiences.
Don’t come here if you have a big party. There’s nine of us and we’ve been waiting for a table for almost 30 minutes now.
