We love Chinese food in our household and we order it from restaurants more than any other type of food. Because of this, we tend to be more particular about our Chinese food than the average family and one restaurant that failed to meet our expectations was Rainbow Caf, near Kona Hawaii.First, lets talk about the positives. Rainbow Caf offers efficient service and even though its not a fast food restaurant, the service is almost that quick. The people who work here are friendly and genuine and the food is priced more reasonably than the Chinese food at other, similar restaurants in the area. These are all good qualities and they would normally help push my rating higher.However nice the people might be and however quick the service, it still cannot compensate for below average food and therein lies the problem with Rainbow Caf. My kids ordered their usual general tsos & orange chicken and I could tell right away that it didnt look right. It had what looked like a heavy glaze poured over it and upon tasting, it was completely lacking in seasoning. There needed to be more spice, but barely any existed. My beef dish was similar. It was nothing more than a slab of beef with some lettuce, rice and macaroni. It was a little more tolerable than the kids chicken, but not by much. It, too, lacked seasoning and was a very boring answer to my lunch cravings. Chinese food is a big deal at our house and we have high expectations. Rainbow Caf failed to meet them and we left feeling cheated. You know something is wrong when your glass of iced tea is the most memorable part of your meal. If you dont mind your Chinese on the bland side, then Rainbow Caf might be okay, but for everyone else, its a place to avoid. greatbeernow.com

Awesome Soup. Food is great but my favorite is the Wor Gau Gee Soup or Wor Gau Gee Mein. I’m from the island of Maui but when I’m in Kona I make it a point to go there.
The only thing good about my meal was the rice, macaroni and bottle of diet coke. The chicken was not edible. They fried the poop out of it.
