Pricey with very little food. Iced tea is $3 and served in a small water glass. They will refill for another $3. Gouda and ham crepe is so flat and made with one piece of lunch meat. When we complained server said they are European quantities. Well the prices are European too. We are in the US not Europe. Off to Safeway to get a croissant!!
I was very disappointed with both the food and the service. I would say the restaurant is ambitious in some respects (atmosphere, menu, artwork), but ultimately if you’re looking for quality food and service this is not your best choice.
Microwaved food. Microwaved bratwurst on pinchy dollar size bread rounds with 2 Tbsp of jarred sauerkraut for $9.00. No flavor. Chocolate souffl is jarred Nutella heated up in small ramekin with 2 strawberries. $8.Obviously catering to tourists who won’t be repeat customers.
One of our favourite Kaua’i finds. After being on Kaua’i for a week, we are getting used to the style and feel of local joints: relaxed pace, laid-back style, maybe a little run-down. Or on the flip side, the super-swank resort places that you know are going to cost you a small fortune. Walking into the Hemingway Cafe was a complete and pleasant surprise. A small and local cafe that serves both the basics, as well as fancy coffee drinks and food, in an atmosphere I will call low key refinement. Owned by a friendly German couple, the cafe had a terrific iced mocha (beautiful and tasty), lots of things to look at and a full menu that caters not just to vegetarians, but to multiple kinds of vegetarians, specifying if a dish was lacto veg, ovo veg, vegan, etc. We chatted with one of the owners, who was a delightful, cultured soul. We will certainly be back and highly recommend this charming nook.
The best food we found in Kauai. We have eaten all over the island, and this is the best food and coffee we have found.
This cafe is beautifully decorated and the food was very good. I would recommend a stop for breakfast!!
Good food, artsy atmosphere. The menu has a large assortment of quiches, omelettes, sweet and savory crepes, as well as greek yoghurt and museli. The quiches are displayed under netting and once they are gone, that’s it — no more. I had the goat cheese crepes and they were good but another diner at the table had mozzarella crepes and those were delicious — rich and creamy. A complaint about service: items are brought to the table as they are prepared (must be a small kitchen) so diners are served one at a time with up to 10 to 15 minutes between each diner being served. No point in being polite and waiting until all diners are served because your food will be cold. Decor is an interesting mix of photos, found art, antiques and really exquisite crafts.
