This place is so tiny that you are practically eating with everyone in the place. We got there late so no line but that means they were sold out of lau lau, salt fish and one other item. I know this because the owner was getting calls left and right and kept saying the same thing over and over again.. No laulau,No salt fish, etc. It was hilarious. The owner helped us pick out a couple of dishes to try and everything we had was delicious… makes me wish I could try the laulau and salt fish. Adorable place with lots of local flavor, we had a great time talking to the owner. Friendly place and a must stop while in the area.
One of the most delicious and authentic Hawaiian meals in Honolulu. Meals are family style. The owners were very helpful. Since my partner and I were visiting the restaurant for the first time and trying new food, they taught us history about the meals and then taught us how to combine various meals together.
OmFg this is the best of the best Hawaiian restaurant you can have. Had the Laulau and the meat really really melts in your mouth, but has texture and not mooshy. You have to try to understand it. The fat is also hold up together but as soon as you eat it it becomes pork cream that coats every palette on your tongue. The owner said the laulau was steamed for 5 hours!!!! Absolutely amazing.
Lots of gluten free options! Make sure you get there early before the start selling out. 5 people shared a combination plate with some dessert left over. 10/10
Recommended by our driver on the way from the airport to our hotel. Amazing Lau Lau that gives us the first taste of Hawaiian food. Go early because they run out of it towards the end of the day since they prep their Lau Lau every day in the morning
As soon as you walk in you can either get sat right away or you just have to wait outside. We ordered the rice, the fish poke and the Kalua pig, the Kalua pig was delicious!! The rice was pretty good, the onions that come with the meal were fresh and crispy, the poke was good but not as good as we thought it would be. The poke comes with a lot of seaweed and needs more seasoning, we are not fans of seaweed and did not expect that in our meal.Overall this place has a local feeling to it and the food is fresh.
Still thinking about my delicious meal… Yum! Delicious and authentic! Got the combination meal which had a great selection of dishes to sample. I think it was around $26 for two people. Pork lau lau, poi, chilli sauce, bowl of onions, jerky, Kalin pork and coconut jelly for dessert. I liked everything and it was good portion sizes. I had to squeeze the last bit in. They only make a certain amount a day so it’s fresh. The outside isn’t inviting and it’s a small place. We went around 5 so got a table straight away but people coming around 6 and later had to wait outside for a table but the food is worth it!
