My friend and I have been staying at the Grand Wailea for a business trip for nearly a week and we needed to get off the property for dinner. We actually did not want to go to another hotel but some local friends of ours highly recommended Ko. What a fabulous recommendation! We walked over and just sat at the bar – we were immediately greeted by Kas, one of the bartenders. He took amazing care of us, and even though we were not guests of the hotel, Kas made us feel like we belonged right in those seats. Every suggestion he made was perfect and his warm, friendly, and attentive (but not smothering) service was exactly what we were looking for after some poor experiences at both our hotel and at other locations around (and don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Wailea, so this is not a knock on the local area). To compare, we had eaten at both our hotel and at Ka’ana Kitchen at the Andaz (i’ll be reviewing those separately), and we found Ko to be what we’ve been looking for in the local area for days….great food at a great value in a relaxed atmosphere and in a place where we felt like we mattered (thanks to Kas). My friend and I shared two starters and a fresh fish entre, along with a few different glasses of wine. And there were several other dishes that we wanted to try, but couldn’t do in one sitting. Fabulous meal, highly recommended.
