Side Street Inn on Da Strip is clearly much larger than the original downtown! The line was out the door and we waited about 30 minutes to be seated. The place was busy and loud with a very bar-like feel, but the food was very good. We tried the Pulehu Short Ribs, the Fried Whole Red Snapper and the Garlic Fries. OK, so we didn’t try the garlic fries like we ordered, but the got the regular ones and thought they were just boring, turned out the parley and seasoning was just that, no garlic fries on the bill. That was the only real disappointment. The short ribs were perfect, tasty, moist and rare with perfect grill marks and flavor. We had to get the larger 2 lb snapper as they ran out of the 1 lb. It was fried, served whole and plated with sweet chili sauce on the side. It was moist inside, crispy outside and went very well with the sauce. If you don’t mind the atmosphere the meal here is good, albeit a bit on the pricey side (over $100 for 2 with one beer).
What a great kaimaina place with ohana sized sharing portions! This place is ‘da bomb! Go hungry and with many people. The Kalbi short ribs are great but even unexpected delights abound in things like the mixed salad with capers and bay shrimp. Have anything with crispy pork belly and your belly will be so happy. Great drinks, great service, excellent food! Go with a group and everybody, I mean everyone, will be happy!
Be warned – Family style huge portions!!! We had a group of 12 so we had no problem with two fried rice platters, two pork chop platters, two poke samplers, two orders of edamame, lilikoi BBQ ribs, rib eye steak, mochiko chicken, miso butterfish and oxtail soup. The brownie desserts and lilikoi crime brle was also gone in a flash. Food was good, waitress was fantastic and we all left completely stuffed and happy!
Food was very good. Large portions and great service!
Ridiculous large portions. Great food, family style, huge portions. We were to stuff from our earlier lunch today so we split the Chinese Sliders. Wonderful BBQ Pork with little steamed buns. The rest of the group ordered various plates and kept passing the around which we had a little taste of. The chicken Katsura is nicely breaded and tender, the pork chops are ridiculously good, garlic mushrooms were tender and tasty, the BBQ pork rice was delicious. Full bar, decent drinks but putting a cherry in an Irish Coffee? C’mon. Service was excellent. The restaurant is hard to find, no signage. Go into the underground garage under the Prudential building, take the elevator to the first floor and you are there.
Very yummy but portions are hugs based on family style. Go hungry and with a bunch of friends! Love the bread pudding!
Best ahi poke ever!. Need I say anymore? This is the number 1 local food item I wanted to try in Hawaii and this place didn’t disappoint me. This restaurant gives you a great taste of local comfort food. The portions are huge and you’ll likely go home with a doggy bag. You won’t leave hungry.
