Service was a bit slow at times and prices high but overall island warmth and generosity was still present! Their coffee was some of the best we tasted on the island and the the views were breathtaking! No wonder this place earned a spot as one of America’s best outdoor bars! Their complimentary walnut muffins were to die for and their eggs and French toast were great too!
Lava Lava’s trump card is undoubtedly its location. The restaurant is situated in a tranquil, sandy spot on the ocean, allowing its patrons to dine in a comfortable outdoor setting. After being seated, one can expect prompt and convivial service from the staff, as I experienced. However, I must admit that following our order, the food came much too quickly, especially the appetiser (sizzling shrimp) which arrived mere moments after our order. Nonetheless, the sizzling shrimp appetiser was quite tasty. Although the shrimp was a touch dry, the sauce was immense. The coconut shrimp main arrived too swiftly as well, as we had only just finished our appetiser when it was placed on the table. Still, it was delicious, as the shrimps were crunchy and simply superb. The beans and carrots were a little underdone, but the coconut rice was terrific, and the sauce was simply divine. The meal was well complemented by a luscious Pino Colada. Ultimately, the cost to quality value was a little underwhelming, and I would of expected a higher quality for the prices charged for each meal. Overall, the dining experience at Lava Lava was quite enjoyable while being fairly expensive.
Visited restaurant for lunch after an unsuccessful attempt to have dinner there few nights before reservation highly recommended. Beautiful setting with most tables offering ocean view; some tables also located directly on the beach. The menu is quite large, and of course, typical Hawaiian with lots of fish selections. We had sizzling shrimp as our appetizer the shrimp was truly sizzling as it arrived at the table. Very tasty with great aromas filling the air my only complaint would be that someone was too generous with lime/lemon, and contrary to the popular opinion, we dont like lemon on our fish, so this was a minor issue.Fish sandwich was tasty, with perfectly cooked fish and tasty creamy sauce. My wifes burger was tasty but slightly overcooked. As everything in Hawaii, the place is not cheap prepare to spend $30+/pp for lunch, even without drinks. Outstanding friendly and prompt service. Definitely recommended. talk-a-vino.com
Came here for dinner one night & cant say i’d return, it was really average & service was pretty poor. It was actually my birthday we were out for dinner & the service was pretty average that unfortunately thats all i remember from that restaurant, food was pretty crappy. Disappointed i spent my birthday dinner there instead of somewhere else that would have been a lot better. I waited so long for the waitress to get my bill I ended up having to go to a guy at the bar & ask for it as we couldn’t wait all night.
WORST SERVICE EVER! We made reservations, showed up on time (like 5-10 minutes before), and still had to wait like 15 minutes despite the fact that there were numerous tables open. Asked to be seated on the beach, and they said they would see what they could do. We were FINALLY seated and ended up NOT on the beach and back near the kitchen which literally smelled like vomit. We asked to be moved to a table closer to the beach, they said they would be right back. 10 minutes later, the server showed up. Again, we asked to move to another table. Took forever so we finally just got up and left. The setting was beautiful and I’m sure the food would have been good, but totally not worth our time. I have no patience for bad service and will not be giving our patronage to such an establishment. Too bad. We were really looking forward to it. I’d say don’t waste your time or your money here.
Great atmosphere, good food. Happy hour is a great bargain 4-6pm. Great service. Great place to see the sun set. We had Seafood chowder, buffalo wings, chips with mango salsa! All very good
This is very much an Hawaiian dining experience. Sit in a chair along the beach sipping on a cocktail and watching another fiery sunset.Lots of local meals with many fish selections. The food wasn’t anything special but the atmosphere was.I might have to give them another go soon
