Ill be honest I am not a coffee drinker, but we bought a java to try nonetheless and packaged coffee for friends while here. We sampled and then without hesitation bought two of their POG frosties (passion fruit/orange/guava). They were delicious and worth mentioning!!! There were plenty of customers and Service was very friendly and laid back. Island style. This place was great ambiance and great island image.

We loved it! We stayed in wailea so we were in Kihei quite a bit. Went to lava java several times. Latte was textbook. A little bit barista dependent. The owners son was very friendly and created perfect microfoam texture that was incredibly smooth. My wife loved their iced Americano. Very solid coffee shop. I don’t think you can miss at lava java.

Cheap and bad. In addition to their overpriced coffee they charge me extra for cream! If you like good coffee this is not the place for you.

Wanted to try some Maui-grown coffee so I got the Peaberry, once in an Americano, once in a cappucino. Enjoyed them both and hope to go there again on this trip. If you like local, versus commercial coffee shops, give them a try.
