I was extremely unimpressed with this restaurant. A fellow traveler staying at our hotel recommended it to us. I should have known as it was not on my list of places to visit but wanted to try something new. When you walk in the main entrance and down the stairs the views are amazing. The setting is very romantic. We were seated promptly. They start w addicting bread basket. Unfortunately that was the only highlight. We started w the dumplings. They lacked flavor and the pork was bland. Our dinners were both unimpressive. I HIGHLY recommend you save your money and enjoy another local fave.
JASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. JASON remember his name because it will be mentioned numerous times throughout my review and for great reason. JASON runs a tight well greased machine as the Bar Manager of Nicks Seafood Restaurant in the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea, Maui. JASONS team of bar mates include Dave, Alex, and a casual member; Masa. When you arrive at Nicks the bar is separated from the restaurant and they offer happy hour from 5-7:00 pm. Whether you are there solely for happy hour or a pre-dinner drink; as soon as you sit down JASON and his team are already looking after you. There is a napkin in front of you and they have poured you a water and are asking what they can serve you. JASON does this at lightning speed with a few jokes thrown in and somehow you feel like you have just been reacquainted with your long lost best friend. While JASON and his team are taking care of all the patrons at the bar they are also accommodating all the wait staff working in the restaurant. Nothing is missed. For the previous two weeks we were entertained by JASONS amazing mixology skills, JASON, DAVE, and ALEX’s wicked senses of humour, JASON’S keen instinct of people and their needs which made you believe he had eyes in the back of his head supplemented by super hearing skills. A refill drink would show up before you could speak a word or make eye contact. If you want to know how to recognize JASON look for the hot Portuguese guy with piercing hazel eyes that look into your soul. So worth a visit. Amazing food!
Five Dollar Soda Refills. We ate at Nick’s as a special last night in Maui. The hostess was rude. She didn’t look up from her computer or smile once. And no, she wasn’t busy…we got there just as the restaurant was opening. Fine. The rest of the servers were very polite. The food was lovely. The view nice. Then we got the bill. The kids’ sodas were $5. Not pleasant, but fair enough, I guess. Except that they charge for refills. There was a $25 charge for root beer served in tiny glasses with lots of ice. Unbelievable and truly stupid. This is the last impression that a fine dining establishment wants to leave its guests with? Nickel-and-diming on a $300 bill? We complained, and $15 of the root beer charge was removed from the bill, but we left the restaurant feeling pissed and taken advantage of. What an idiotic and greedy business decision. Also, we were there during their so-called happy hour, but we were charged full price for our cocktails and appetizers. Maybe happy hour is only in the bar? Or maybe you only get the good price if you ask for it. I don’t know, because at that point we just shook our heads and left in fear that the rest of our money would be confiscated on the way out the door. Btw, I live in Park City. We eat at some of the finest resort restaurants in the country on a regular basis. I’ve never seen anything like that. Ungracious and beneath the standards of a truly nice restaurant.
All bling. We were here for our Christmas dinner, ready to pay a small fortune for something special. It all sounded good but, really, it’s just overpriced, overrated, tourist-attraction fare. My $65 lobster was pitiful and, like everything else, looks great but nothing exceptional. I think I got maybe three or four bites out of the lobster and five or six small bits of gnocchi. Thank god for dessert because I was still hungry. I think that’s why they keep refilling the bread basket….make you full before the teeny, tiny entree arrives. I honestly think people give it great reviews because that’s what they think they are supposed to say. It may have been great once but not now.
Wonderful food, amazing service! We had fish that was excellent. The service was the best part, always there without hovering around the table. Much better than KO that is next door.
The service was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the location is beautiful. Make a reservation at sunset, it’s gorgeous & romantic.
Highlight of the meal was the attention paid to filling the water glasses. Food was very disappointing
