This could be the best dining experience on Maui. Although my sister who lives on Maui says Mama’s Fish House is the best, and Spago a close second. I didn’t get to Mama’s last trip, so I reserve judgement on the best. But Spago is an amazing experience. All that comes with Michelin style service is embodied here, along with the fare. The location is amazing, we saw a whale from our table in the open walled room. Also caught the sunset. All the food, as was expected is world class. No need to go in to what was eaten, as anything you order will be a delightful experience. Is it expensive, Yes, just as all restaurants at this level. Is it worth it? Yes, people spend as much for two, going to an NHL game in my city, to see a team out for a skate dropping the game 5 to 1, and being charged as much for alcoholic beverages as Spago charges. I took in a few games this season. And my experience at Spago is more ingrained than any of those games, as a matter fact, I can’t remember any of them. I guess I need a season ticket to catch a few memorable games. If I had a choice of 40 home NHL games, or 40 dinners at Spago in a season, I’d have Spago on speed dial.
Good experience. Cozy and dimly lit restaurant. Service is slightly exagerrated and so are the prices. Tasteful meal nevertheless.
Overpriced. Hard upsell from the servers. The whole fish, described by the server as fabulous, was actually over cooked and flavorless. The sauce could be had at any strip mall Thai restaurant for 1/4 of the cost. Also the staff was on the snooty side. Skip Spago, and eat at Ferraro, which was fabulous.
Great experience. My steak was cooked to perfection and my guest’s tuna was amazing. Very nice and attentive staff. Only problem – our waiter took our desserts before we even finished.
Thanksgiving. I’m one of the few people who expects a traditional turkey dinner when on holiday: I get away from the mainland for good reason and when in Maui, I want something different. Spago, while completely commercial and far from intimate, had gotten a good review from foodie friends, so I thought I’d give it a shot.Loud, child-filled dining room. Overly warm in temperature, making the whole meal a sweaty experience. A small menu, offering very few dishes that you couldn’t find at any number of Hawaiian restaurants. Overall, for the money spent, it felt like a cash grab by the Four Seasons… Nothing special about it, warm (not hot) food presentation and the only positive thing about the meal was the impressive wine list. I find a bottle of Krug always makes median food taste just a little better. This was cruise ship fare, but the typical Four Seasons guests sitting around me didn’t seem to care or notice.
Best in Wailea. Best meal by far in Maui during our month long stay. Butterfish appetizer was very unique and out of this world. Duck, Mahi Mahi India Style, and Ahi entrees were fantastic. Onion rings were a little too salty, but that’s being nit picky. Listen, it’s not cheap, but if you want a great meal without regard for economics, go here. Ask for server Jeb …. very personable and knows his stuff. Oh, Kona Coffee ice cream desert (made on site) is a great finish.Returned 2/23/17: Food was great, as would be expected, but the service fell short. They service your table in a team of 4 or so, but our team seemed to not be communicating. They delivered our appetizers to us well after we asked to be moved inside due to cold weather. When walking inside we saw a propane heat lamp being used on another table, and were told they only had one, which was blatantly false as we subsequently saw 2 more put into use. Maybe an off night, but for they price they really should provide a consistently great experience.
Best dinner we had in Maui. Food was great and service was excellent. We sat outside and the view was beautiful!! This place is worth every penny.
