Fridas is the first Mexican Food Restaurant on Maui that knows how to serve Mexican food. I endured 17 years of really substandard Mexican food on this island. I gave Fridas a chance after hearing good things. My expectations were low. I was blown away by the Margaritas – actually made correctly – no 7 Up, sweet and sour mix, etc! (yes they do that on Maui) I figured I wouldn’t be able to eat the cheese enchiladas but they were fantastic. Not a morsel left on my plate. I am still in heavenly shock. If you are from Houston, you will not be disappointed.(Houstonians know their Mexican food and are used to the best) If you are visiting from anywhere, don’t miss this great Mexican food. It’s pricey but so worth it.

Best margs on the island! Tasty Mexican fare with an island twist if you so desire, e.g. fish (but we enjoyed a break from fish-centric menus). Highly recommend!

The food here is pretty good, and the views are great. If that’s all you care about in a restaurant and you like Mexican food, then by all means check this place out. However, if you care about the restaurant’s integrity and customer service – and the safety of your belongings while you dine here – then I’d strongly suggest steering clear of this restaurant and any other restaurants under the same ownership. We ate here a couple weeks ago while on vacation in Maui. We used their valet service and had left a removable camera lens in our center console, which was not there when our car was returned after dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant, my husband had just changed our camera lens for a shorter lens and put the longer lens in the center console of the car, so we know exactly where the lens was and where we had been storing it the entire trip. We noticed the lens was gone as soon as we left the restaurant, and we immediately called to speak to a manager. The manager apologized and gave us the contact info for the valet company, which we’ve since learned is not insured for property and is underinsured for auto. This means your belongings in your vehicle are NOT SAFE while you dine here or at any other restaurants under the same ownership. The owner of the valet company allegedly conducted his own investigation of his employees via phone, concluding that his employees could not possibly have done this. In other words, sorry not sorry. It’s nice that Frida’s valet company supports their employees, but not at the expense of customer service and reality. In addition, while we went back to the restaurant to speak with the owner and called him multiple times, he originally put this on the valet company (which ultimately denied any culpability), and he eventually gave us his insurance agent’s name. We filed a police report and were told that this is a very common occurrence (who do you believe, the police or the valet company?!). We also filed an insurance claim with the valet company’s insurance company and tried to file a claim with the restaurant’s insurance company, only to learn after multiple calls that Frida’s owner was refusing to release his insurance information so we are unable to file an actual claim. Consequently, this single dinner cost us hundreds of unexpected dollars to replace our camera lens, not to mention countless hours on the phone trying to get this resolved amicably (to no avail). That’s what I call customer service (heavy sarcasm intended).Given this experience, we will not support any restaurant owned by Mark and Judy Ellman, and we wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Went to Frida’s for a private wedding eve dinner party. Entire restaurant was booked for the occasion. This is a rustic beach house resto which pays homage to Frida Kuhlo and has a spectacular oceanfront balcony where you can enjoy the Mauiian sunset. Self serve appies included fish ceviche and guacamole, salsa and tortilla chips. They were delicious. A buffet dinner followed, which included: grilled mahi mahi, carne asada, vegetables, refried beans, black beans, rice and spicy chicherons. Dessert were passion fruit mousse and macrons. The grilled fish was outstanding, fresh and cooked just right, not overdone. The food quality and taste speaks to the skill level of the chef and his team. Frida’s had the same consistent food quality and service as Honu. Can’t comment on the service as it was a self-serve meal, but the drink servers were friendly and attentive.

We were craving Mexican food and so glad we chose Frida’s. The facilities were super clean, staff was friendly and the food was superb! Doesn’t taste like your typical Mexican style food and the salsa will wow your taste buds.

What a perfect place to have dinner. Loved the free valet parking especially since parking is an issue where Frida’s Mexican Beach House is located. Spectacular view and open seating right by the ocean. We sat right by the water and had an incredible view of theD sunset. Very friendly staff. I started with fresh squeezed lemonade and Mexican mango soda for my husband. Delicious. The chips and salsa were YUMMY. One of the best salsa I’ve ever had. We ordered the fresh guacamole topped with Cotija cheese and pomegranate seeds. Seriously the best guacamole I’ve ever had. And I’m a foodie. A woman came around selling the most fragrant leis. My husband bought we one and she kindly took our picture. For dinner, my husband had the chicken tinga flautas which tasted amazing. Fresh mango salsa was a nice side. The dish was rich though. We should have split it. I had the Baja fried fish tacos. It was good but I could not eat one whole one. Not the best fish taco I’ve ever had but it was a worthy competitor. Great experience. I might need to go again before we leave.

Delicious pit stop along the ocean. Frida’s is a very inviting find with its long bar and Oceanside seating. The flautas were tastey as was the fresh fish tacos. Ask for the caliente hot sauce if you’re looking for heat! Yum. Our server (Will) was friendly and helpful as well. Great find 😀
