We were very happy with our meal at Gyu Kaku. The menu is a pretty decent list option options to grill at your tables. There are some prepared apps and dishes as well, but the grilling is really why you’re here. Nonetheless we started with a Wafu salad that was pretty boring, the chili dumplings which were lacking any spice and the garlic fries that were decent except they were smothered furiake. The standouts were the meats. We ordered 7 items from the ala carte menu plus a plate assorted vegetables (skimpy). The meats however really took centerstage. The garlic shrimp was very good, with plenty of garlic, the skirt steak and shabu shabu while tasty were a bit thin losing much beef taste, the spicy pork was well flavored but also tad thin but the short rib and hanger steaks were both meaty and flavorful. The standout was smoked pork belly, three pieces of pork perfection, I could have eaten 10 and skipped 75% of the others. In all we enjoyed the overall meal and would return to try other items. With one drink, and dessert it was $100 for 2. Now that we’ve tried once, I’m sure we could be happier and cost us less in the future.
