Some of the most attentive care I’ve received as a gluten free and dairy free traveler, the staff at Makahiki made sure I had an amazing and decadent meal when arriving to Aulani. I had a grilled chicken salad and fries that were flavorful and filling. My husband (no dietary restrictions) enjoyed a club sandwich with potato salad which he said was incredible. noshandnurture.com

I booked the character breakfast for my son because he loves Mickey Mouse. Thinking he would really enjoy it I looked past the $32 brunch cost for adults, $18 for kids (9 and under) and the $35 parking fee (yikes).I had no complaints for the food except the selection was a bit bare, but my idea of a character breakfast was lots of Disney character interactions, not just with Mickey standing by the pool and taking pictures with each guest and having only Minnie, Chip and Dale coming to tables ONCE to take pictures. Seriously, that was it. There was a lady who was singing and getting the kids involved with activities but she wasn’t dressed up as a character. I seriously thought the characters would come by, play with the kids, sit at the tables for a bit, etc. Quite disappointing. The only saving grace was the easy access to the beautiful lagoon. But ouch at the $35 parking fee… unless you’re lucky enough to find a spot at those tiny beach parking lots! followmyfoodtrail.wordpress.com

If you are going for the character breakfast you’ll be impressed. Dinner on the other hand is a gigantic waste of money. The food is lousy and the price is far too high for the quality you’ll get.

Avoid. Other than the Disney breakfast this is a place to avoid. ( The Disney experience was great) All things wrong about American food are on display. Obesity researchers should use this as a primary research area. I also made the silly mistake to order room service which apparently came form this ‘restaurant’……… never seen so much ‘cheese’ on a pizza ( and so little else)

Did not try the budfet as it was very pricey, especially if you have kids that eat virtually nothing. The food off the menu was wonderful.

We were underwhelmed by the dinner buffet. This is a very small buffet with limited options, so don’t go in expecting a myriad of options to choose from. The crab legs were very small and were on ice, they are more of a salad option (and are on the salad bar). The prime rib was cut extremely thin and all that ended up on our plates was a thin strip of prime rib fat. There were no guava BBQ ribs on the buffet when we went, so we can’t speak to their tastiness as the other reviewer did. Be warned, if you are not staying at the Disney Resort and just come in for dinner you may be surprised by the amount of children running around the place (including the buffet). Overall, it was $40 plus per person, for a buffet similar to (but much smaller than) a Golden Corral. For a fourth of that price you may feel it’s a decent buffet, but for $40 plus per person we wished we would have skipped this one. On a positive note our waitress was nice and attentive.

Buffet. The food at the buffet is really good and the selection is AMAZING! As hotel guests, my husband and I ate here for both breakfast and dinner.Breakfast includes photos with Mickey before you sit down to eat. A package can be purchased for $30 that includes an 8×10 and 2 copies of 2 shots in 3×5, plus an 8×10 of Mickey and Minnie. You can also ask them to take pictures with your camera. Minnie and Goofy came around to our table while we were eating.Breakfast had items from all over the world – I was so impressed! They had pancakes, Mickey shaped waffles for the kids, french toast, blinis with raspberry sauce, oatmeal, grits, yogurt and granola, dim sum (steamed buns with BBQ pork, shrimp dumplings and pork xiao mai), congee, hash browns, bacon, Portuguese sausage, turkey bacon, loco moco, an omelet station, pastries, fresh fruit and tons more that I can’t remember. To drink we had coffee and a tropical fruit juice blend. For the dinner buffet, the selection was equally vast…. sushi, crab legs, shrimp cocktail, raw oysters, guava BBQ pork ribs (SO GOOD), mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, pasta, tater tots, prime rib carving station, spring rolls (yummy!), tempura fried onions and taro (yum!), apple cobbler, caramel bread pudding, cookies, mini pastries… and more I can’t remember it all. I had a lilikoilatta from the bar that was delicious! Our servers were very nice both times, pleasant and checked back with us several times to see if we needed anything. As everyone has stated, it is QUITE pricey but the large selection and variety of foods helps make up for it somewhat. I would definitely do the breakfast again.
