On a ridiculously sticky morning, after a hike up the terrifying Koko Crater trail, the mochi here was such a welcome treat. All the flavors we tried were distinctive but not overpoweringly so and enjoyable. If you’re in the area definitely stop by.
We were the first customers in and we ordered 3 mochi ice creams – lychee, strawberry and lilikoi. The mochi was still very frozen so we waited a few mins for it to thaw and get nice and soft just like mochi should be …and it was amazing!!! In order of the flavours we liked most: 1. Strawberry (beautiful & sweet), 2. Lychee (nice & fruity), 3. Lilikoi (a bit too sour – perhaps we should’ve had this first!). We really wanted to try the Green Tea but unfortunately it was all sold out 🙁 The ice cream fillings were creamy, lovely and cold, a beautiful contrast to the soft layer of perfectly dusted mochi. Wish I had room to try more!!!
Locals Favorites. My husband and our children always love to stop by Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream whenever we go around the island. It’s one of our favorite places to visit anytime we go out with our children and we all go as a family (local style). Sometimes we just take a long ride on Sunday after church from Aiea to Hawaii Kai just for Bubbies Homemade Ice cream. Their mochi ice cream are the best in the island. We would recommend this to anyone with a family or stop by after a dinner with a date. The environment is neat, friendly and welcoming. The owner has a down-to-earth personality and you’ll enjoy his company while serving you.
