The restaurant was recommended for lunch by the folks at the Volcano winery which we visited right before. As you walk in, everything around says comfort you are up in the mountains (on the volcano, to be exact!), so huge fireplace with the mantel covered with German beer mugs is definitely an eye-pleasing sight. The lunch menu at the restaurant (they serve breakfast until 2 pm) is pretty much traditional Hawaiian and doesnt show much German influence (I didnt look at the beer selection as I had to drive for 2 hours after the lunch). There was bean and sausage soup offered as a special, and I took that as a soup is one of my favorites. This one, however, was a complete disappointment the same tomato base as minestrone, with the same spices, red beans which looked like they came from the can, practically raw potatoes and sausage nowhere to be found – not my type of soup at all. However, fish sandwich with Ahi tuna was outstanding, with an excellent sauce. My wifes burger was perfect too, properly cooked and very flavorful. Excellent service. Overall recommended, but maybe avoid the soup. talk-a-vino.com
Terrible service and mediocre food at an expensive price. This was easily the worst meal my wife and I had on our honeymoon and we have been here for over a week. I am fine with service that is slower, I guess that’s a hawiaan thing, but they were so sloooooow and then my wife ordered the chicken and it was rubbery and appeared to be undercooked. When we said that the chicken looked undercooked the waitress took the chicken to the kitchen and then brougt it back saying that the chicken was fully cooked. Are you serious? If we said that the chicken seemed undercooked then why wouldn’t you just have the chef cook it a little more? It wouldn’t have made a difference though because the chicken was just overly sweet and the lack of any kind if sear made it very unappetizing. Nothing could save this meal. On a positive note, the soup was good but too bad the rest of the service wasn’t.
