Alan Wongs is a high end/fine dining restaurant in Honolulu. The dishes were quite unique; they were a fusion of Asian/Hawaiian that were presented beautifully. I found the flavours a bit on the bland side though; they were pretty delicious but not mind-blowingly so. I pretty much came here for their The Coconut which was sherbet in a chocolate shell served in a coconut shape – fruity, sweet and quite refreshing. Probably wouldnt be returning, but it was still an enjoyable dining experience overall.
Some of the dishes were so very imaginative. The quantities were very generous for such a refined restaurant. Wine is, as expected, a bit expensive but, for a treat and a better value, get a bottle from Alan Wong’s selection. Save room for the unusual and delicious deserts.
Valentine’s double dinner date. We were in Hawaii for a week and this was the most expensive and disappointing meal we had eaten the whole trip. This is meant to be a fine dining establishment, hence the food and service should be slightly better than norm. Wrong! We had already booked a table for 8:15pm a week in advance, I assume they have different seating times since the options were either 5:30 or 8:15 hence the table should have been available and ready for our punctual arrival. It wasn’t. We were made to wait in between the lift and women’s toilets for approx 15-20 minutes before they managed to clear our table for us. The service for the rest of the night was good, cannot fault the wait staff at all. In regards to the food, another 2 members of our group only rated this place 1 so I have been fairly generous. The food was very rough and not fine at all. It was like they were cooking a buffet for us quite literally. The food quality was the normal ughhhh Buffet quality and the portion sizes were ridiculous! After the Hors d’oeuvres and first course, we were all ready to go home we were so full!!This isn’t the first year they have done this sort of menu for Valentine’s Day so they should be a little more practised in terms of portion sizes at least. My bf and I basically packed the rest of the 3/5 courses to go and had it for dinner and breakfast the next morning (I eat an average standard sized portion). Other than that, the ambience was very nice actually and decor – sadly the meal was very disappointing.
Not too much choices for us to order, but what we had was nice. Happy about is price reasonable. I was wondered what Mr&Mrs Obama also Mr&Mrs Bush think about your foods. Really surprise seeing lots of photos the owner took with all these famous people. I come here next time hoping come across someone in these photos!
Not what it used to be. Just had dinner last night at Alan Wongs…my third time in 3 visits to Honolulu. I have always enjoyed my meals there and always looked forward to the experience…but I think the love affair has come to an end. The food was good but not great, and certainly not worth the price, but the service was undoubtedly lacking. Our waiter was more interested in carrying on a conversation with a couple at another table, and his assistants had to carry the load for us as well as his other tables. Another gentleman complained politely to management, but it obviously had no effect as the waiter continued his ignoring style to us as well. I believe for restaurants of this supposed quality, it is the entire experience we are paying for,but sadly there was no experience. When we left, not a single person acknowledged our departure…there was no thank you or checking in to see how our meal went. I can honestly say that i was disappointed and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal in Honolulu. There are many other fine dining establishments to spend your money at…don’t waste it at Alan Wongs.
Taste of the Classics. Like a flight of fine wines, this is small portions of regular menu items. Some are appetizers, entrees, and desserts. All are fantastic in taste and presentation. As each item is served the waiter gives you the name of the dish, the sauces and the main ingredients.
Ate there a couple of years ago. Still talking about it! One of the best dining experiences ever.
