Wonderful local favorite. The food is beautifully prepared and scrumptious. We loved sitting on the patio and watching the sunset over Hilo Bay. Our waitress, Hiinae, was wonderful, attentive, and pleasant. The popular eggplant custard appetizer would make the finest chefs in the world envious. Great dessert menus. Lovely selection of sushi entrees as well as more mainland dishes, but I recommend the Maui Rum Pork Ribs.
Good food + good service. Bread & olive oil with our drinks. Salmon sashimi and shrimp sushi delicious. Organic greens salad very tasty. Finished meal with refreshing guava sorbet. Portion sizes are just right. We ate at the bar instead of waiting 1 hour for table. Busy but friendly atmosphere for Friday dinner. Modern designed interior with natural wood featured. Outside tables available. View of Hilo Bay / ocean.

6 years on and…. I ate at the Hilo Bay Cafe in May 2009 when it was still near the Wal mart shopping center. And 6 years on I am still raving about the restaurant and recommending it to friends. Such fond memories of this place (it was the best meal on our 2 week trip across Hawaii) and happy to see ita beautiful new location! My family and I still reminisce about HBC, and cannot wait to return !

Overall I liked the resturant I got the chicken bowl which had entirely too much pepper 🙁 it would have been some much better without all the flavors were masked by it. My husband got the blue burger which was very good and cooked perfectly ! We also got the lava cake which was excellent ! I got the euporean flight if wine which was a werid paring but overall ok I’m not a huge wine drinker but it gave me the chance to try something I normally wouldn’t
