Love them long johns….. This bakery has been around since I was a kid, and several years ago the name changed (from Mile’s to Mike’s). While I’ve never special-ordered a cake from them, I have eaten their pastries, particularly their long johns, to the point of craving them all week long. I must say that with all the other bakeries on the island, Mike’s has the best because of their REAL CUSTARD! Napoleon’s (Zippy’s), Liliha Bakery, Kilani Bakery, and a few well-known others that make long johns don’t even come close! So if you plan to come all the way out to the westside, make it a point to stop by there and try one, and then you’ll know what I’m talking about!Oh, and they also have really buttery butter rolls, which are very addicting!
Unedible cake. I finally was able to speak to the owner to try to come to a compromise for the cake for my grandson’s grad/birthday party. All the guests threw it away, kids and all. It was very very dry and nobody wanted it. The owner was not willing to compensate. We asked for half the money back and was refused. Very bad customer service and business practice. This business does not seem to care about making their customers happy and satisfied.
Very unhappy. My daughter ordered a cake for my grandson’s combination graduation and birthday party. My daughter contacted them after the party to try to come to an agreement for compensation. I am not giving details as of yet, but I have tried multiple time to reach them and they do not return my calls. I am asking that the owner contact me. I gave my phone number a few time on answer machine, i do not want to post it. Please call me so that we can resolve this issue. Thank you
Rainbow Birthday Cake. My husband & I are stationed on the mainland after leaving Oahu in June 2011. Our daughter was still a teenager when we moved there, but she is now married & graduating from college this year. Since I couldn’t be there in February for her birthday, I had to find a local HI bakery. My daughter & her husband Loved the Rainbow cake! Thank you Mike’s Bake Shop!!! Kudos from TN!
Hidden Gem in Waianae. I read the one and only review of this little mom and pop bakery. What captured my attention in this was the fact that one bad review had ten recommendations! I wonder if those ten recommendations ever gave the place a try. Well, hopefully I can be the one happy customer (review) that will spread the good news about this little gem of a place. First, let me say that I did have one bad experience, but the good experiences certainly outnumber it. A rundown on three of my favorites: Rainbow cake – REAL custard between the layers-reminds me of a cake from the old Alexander Young Bakery in downtown- who remembers that? Butter Rolls-ahhh, no place on this island have I found such buttery rolls…Custard sandwiches (not Long Johns, SANDWICHES!)…again, we talking REAL custard here.and the kind that ooozes with each bite.the original bakery was called Miles’ Bakery. I heard it is his brother Mike who now runs it, hence the name change. Got to remember, this is a mom & pop joint here, not a corporation – they’ve been around for more than 45 years (I know that for a fact!) – Don’t expect first class service, but do expect pastries that taste good!
Completely unsatisfied. Went to pick up a cake at mikes bake shop in waianae on sunday 9/27 and simply asked for the banana cake…. i heard they made the best banana cake so go figure. told the guy behind the counter i needed a banana cake and he agreed. told him twice mind you… here’s the thing… it’s not like i can cut the cake open and see if it’s banana or not… so went home sang happy birthday and cutting into the cake… guess what it was… f*ck!n chocolate…. i am pissed and so is going to talk to the manager… and plus to i go there and the decorater already left and noone in the f’n bake shop can write on the cake… it’s a shame waht a fricken rip off.
