Good exposure to traditional Hawaiian food. If you’ve already been to a luau then might not be worth the trip. Nice dinner stop if you rented a car for the day as it is a bit out of Waikiki.
This is my only Hawaiian food place. I’m raising my boys (3) on this place too. When my mom visits from Kaua’i, this is where we’re eating. The new renovation including the Highway Inn Seafood Market is great. The food is so ‘ONO’ this place still packs a crowd. Today I had the Pork Laulau Super Combo featuring pork laulau, dried pipikaula, haupia, lomi lomi salmon, a small bowl of poi & a side order of squid luau. I bought a pound of creamy wasabi ahi from the seafood market. I’m still eating so I’ll be back to explain these dishes when I recover from my ‘Kanak Attack’! I’ll explain that later too!
The best Hawaiian food, get the take out for your next party, what a hit!
If you like Poi, then this is your place. I had some pretty good lau lau at Pinkys so no need to drive to Waipahu. Otherwise the burger was a little better than McDs.
Only if you like Hawaiian to start. Again Guy Fieri lets us down. We went to try authentic Hawaiian dishes like Lau Lau, Lomi Lomi and he kauala pork. Everyone was super salty and the only one I’d eat again was the teri beef chunks (Pikipau?) All served on school cafeteria style trays. So maybe if you already know you like overly salted mushy foods this is good, but we found it almost inedible. On the other hand the waitresses were so nice and thanked us for trying that I give them an A for sharing the experience of trying the cuisine though we didn’t like the meal.
Wow! The lau lau was great. People are very friendly and the service was excellent. If you want to try authentic Hawaiian food. This is the place.
