Avoid. I wish we had read Kwai Chis review before dining at the Bay Terrace; hes absolutely correct. This is a breakfast only restaurant; you should definitely avoid going there for dinner or lunch. One evening, we decided to give the restaurant a try. My wife being adventuresome, or perhaps foolhardy, ordered lobster. Being the family skeptic, I ordered fish and chips as my main course; how could anyone screw that up? Amazingly, they succeeded! The batter on the thicker pieces was uncooked; the plate was best described as stale sushi with a gelatinous, sometimes soggy and sometimes crisp coating. The lobster convinced my wife that she should never have lobster in Hawaii again. To put it bluntly, undercooked, dead-for-a-week lobster tastes terrible. You should also avoid the wine list. To complement the fish, we decided to order a white wine. Five or six white wines on the list. The wines were all clustered around the $50 price point with one exception; a second rate Sonoma Chardonnay for $75.00. Ouch! The first $50 wine was a semi-sweet Sauvignon Blanc from one of New Zealands worse producers and available from wine.com for 12 bucks. Recognizing the California wine selections as overpriced cheap crap, we ordered a Pinot Grigio that we knew nothing about. The wine convinced us that the entire wine list was based on buying low and selling high, and definitely not how it tasted. The Grigio was grossly defective and we wondered how could any self-respecting wine sommelier buy it? The wine obviously underwent a secondary, and unwanted, bacterial fermentation; it smacked of rancid butter which perhaps is ideally suited to pair with stale fish. My wife commented that the chef was probably trained in a high-school cafeteria. I was less enthusiastic and went home to eat fresh fruit to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
