My second visit to thus funky little Mexican restaurant and bar. Last visit the food was great but service was ordinary; thought I would give it another go. This time food was great and so was the service. I ordered the Plato Mexicans which was tasty and satisfying. They offered hot sauce and well my god, the mild was like being nurtured by your mother as a child, however the hot was like Satan himself had shoved his fork down your throat. Overall a nice meal and good atmosphere.
A funky little Mexican joint above a surf store, food ok at best I had the big mama, staff good the best thing was the pitcher coconut margarita, come for a drink great cocktail….
Good food and delicious strawberry margaritas! It was great friendly service and we picked delicious appetizers; jalapeo poppers and nachos. Yummy!
La Cucaracha is a vibrant upstairs Mexican joint just a block away from Waikiki beach. We popped in after a long day in the sun and decided to share a few smaller dishes. The decor is quite fun, I absolutely loved the fairly lights and the bright coloured bulbs!Personally though the chicken nibbles were delicious. The nachos and the fundida were just slightly above average. Lacked proper Mexican fair we were after. For the amount and quality of food we got, I think it was slightly overpriced. Probably wouldn’t come here again.
Dined at La Cucaracha last night because the Missus felt like eating Nachos, opted for outside seating, Ordered Tacos and something else that wasn’t Nachos To be Honest the service was friendly and the beer cold, the food served its purpose without being great, watch for the bill/checkIt contains the tip and spot for an additional tip, Would have lingered a little longer had time permitted but wouldn’t put high on my list of restaurants to revisit if I find myself back in Hawaii
Jet lagged and exhausted we chose this hoping for a comfort food option. Big mistake! Service was friendly enough but the food was just plain awful. When he nachos arrived so dry and lacking anything in the way of cheese, flavor or salsa I knew we were in trouble . I have had some pretty bad Tex mex in my time but this was the worst, and damn expensive. I went against my 1st cardinal rule of eating Mexican which is to never dine in establishments with sombreros stuck to the ceiling.
This would have to be the worst Mexican food we have ever eaten in the States or anywhere else for that matter. Absolutely no flavour in any of the dishes served, all bland & boring. Where was the chilli hit & where was the the coriander? Even the jalapenos I ordered on the side were not hot! Only good thing I have to say about the place was the service was good very attentive & friendly & we loved all the cute Mexican hats on the roof & walls
